The downtown area is situated along a river, which is quite beautiful. Mainly, the town is fairly well developed. There is not a plethora of good restaurants there like you would find in Yerevan, but the shopping is pretty good and you can find what you need/want. The surrounding countryside is magnificent, as is all of the north of Armenia. Probably if there is ever extended, long-term peace in the area, it will draw a lot more tourists in the future. Don't miss Makaravank, if only for the car ride up to the monastery. Well worth the trip.Guest review byThomasUnited States
