Bregenz was a great base to explore the old town and visit St Martin’s Tower telling the history of Bregenz and its chapel with medieval frescoes. There is a round walking tour suggested on a sign post in the old town that takes you past churches and buildings. I used Bregenz to go and visit Liechtenstein with the integrated train and bus service bus Feldkirch. Small green town on the lake shore. Very green, lakeside promenade is romantic, at the end of the day, you can see the sun on the water's line, charming. Lakefront restaurants vary; some are a bit kitchy. The summer opera's building is interesting. There is a beach on the lake, mountains around, possibility to rent a boat. Relaxed lakeside town , well kept plenty of restaurants and cafes some a bit tucked away so walk up the side alleys as well as the main streets. The old town on the hill is worth a visit, small but with some old traditional buildings. When in Bregenz walk up to the Upper Town (Oberstadt) as it changes the impression from a rather plain centre and pedestrian streets to a charming village character, overlooking the town with old city walls still intact in most parts, the churches of St Martin and St Gallus, the Martin Tower, beautiful old houses and lots of lush gardens. There are plenty of lakeside promenades, the lakeside is all accessible in Bregenz. I recommend the Seeufer walk towards Hard, where you pass through beautiful countryside and lots of open air spaces to relax and direct access to the lake. As a lovely place to eat, I recommend the restaurant 'Petrus' in the centre. It offers French/Belgian fine cuisine in a modern French Bistro Decor, with gentle music playing in the background. Public transport connections such as buses and trains run frequently to hopp over to the island of Lindau in Germany or into the Swiss town of St Gallen, for example. We went to Bregenz to visit the opera and we stayed for two nights. The opera was amazing. The lake was beautiful with opportunities for a boat trip or you could hire boats and pedaloes etc. Nice and not at all tacky. There were lots of nice cafes around the lake and a lake path that was nice for a promenade. The town was small and comprised local shops and cafes. It was pretty and close to the station. Bregenz was a pleasant surprise. Has lots to see and do. Shopping and restaurant area is great to walk around. Lots of trees and seating. Old town up the hill is beautiful , took lots of photos, the whole of Bregenz has some interesting architecture , both old and modern. The lakeside area is set out really well. Boats come in out out taking you to lots of different sites on the lake into Germany and Switzerland. There is also good public transport to everywhere. Bike tracks and walking tracks along lake set out really well. Enjoyed sitting at sunset bar over the water.Guest review byAnonymous

If you are traveling by train and you want to go to the casino and the opera, this is the perfect space. The hotel was very clean and comfortable. One night we had drinks at the bar and the our server was very accommodating of my cocktail requests. We had breakfast one day and I'd say it was both delicious and relatively expensive.
