This is a good area, it's not to busy with tourist.
This is a good area, it's not to busy with tourist. You might feel your left out from all the fun places. But if you have your own transport or you don't mind using the public transport then your not far from anything at all. Your on the right side of the island for the sunset, go next door and have a drink at the resort bar on the beach while the sun sets in front of you.Guest review byMiro - 10.0
My partner and I personally feel that Arorangi is better...
My partner and I personally feel that Arorangi is better than the Muri area. The roads are a bit rougher and less maintained, but the lagoon and snorkelling is by far superior! We loved hanging out at the Aroa Marine Reserve which is by The Rarotongan Beach Resort & Spa. We swam with turtles almost every day - they just cruise past you. PLEASE DO NOT touch the turtles and respect their space - we always stayed at least an arms length from them or further away. I was sad to leave Rarotonga, we were there for 11 nights and it was just right. Not too long, not too short. The water seems way saltier than NZ water. The water quality is great and so clear in some places. The temperature of the water - WOW!!! Pretty warm and it was amazingly pleasant to swim in there. We went middle of March and it was perfect. Please never forget to apply reef-friendly sunblock even on your face as the UV rays can reflect on your face in the water. I burnt my face the first day I went snorkelling and the back of my legs - I learnt fast. The sun is not as harsh as the NZ sun though.Guest review byLee-Ann VHNew Zealand - 10.0

We had a great stay here. We had a car, which meant that we could make the most of the whole island of Rarotonga, which was great. It was better to go about 5 minutes drive down the road to go snorkeling, so we drove every day and if we hadn't had a vehicle it would have been a bit more restrictive. Some lovely snorkeling, the turtle tour with Aqua Oz Turtle Man was a huge highlight for us. Saw a lot of Green Turtles and this was superb with the whole family. Shame the reef seems to be damaged and the local hotels don't even stock reef safe suncream, we did find some in Muri but disappointing to see that locals are not promoting reef care. People are standing all over the reef. Cook Islands should invest in providing more reef care information to tourists. Also quite a lot of litter around, which is a shame as it is a beautiful island. We stayed for 10 days with kids this was probably 3 days too long. great location close to the beach simple units perfect for no frills stay, Pool is perfect. the Crown restort is the best for happy hour cocktails the flying turtle in perfect for breakfast and the best smoothies free wifi across the road is a fun Umu and local entertainment night at Tumutoa, a local character "Ngame" guides you through prepping an umu teaches local dance, coconut husking and grating, the band members you will also meet throughout your stay especially if you go on a "Koka lagoon tour" in Muri - highly recommended. Has a beautiful beach straight across the road. The house is so spacious & beds were super comfy. Estelle is such an incredible host - dropped us off fresh fruit & was available if we ever needed anything! Was very sad when it was time to leave.
