We really enjoyed the Botantical Gardens and parking was fairly easy in town (vs other cities in Tenerife which are more challenging). People were very friendly and helpful. Pleasantly busy with mainly locals and visiting Spanish speaking tourists, I really enjoyed not hearing English being spoken. La Orotava is compact and easy to get around on foot with a number of places of interest including parks and churches. I ate locally each evening and visited a number of cafes and bars serving basic but reasonably priced food. As a base for visiting the North of the island it was perfectly positioned for me to enjoy a scenic motorcycling holiday. What a beautiful place. We went during Corpus Christi week and experienced live music, festivals and all sorts of unexpected fun. Architecture was amazing, locals friendly. Roads very narrow so if you’re driving you need to be pretty confident. A historical town with character.
A historical town with character. Has a lot of good architecture and period villas. Walking around the city gets you back to 18th, 19th century. If you appreciate historic towns this one should not be skipped. This little city is just a little gem: beautiful overall, colonial style architecture, well preserved, magnificent gardens, far from the noisy mass tourism, elegant, full of flowers, amazing vue. I've visited the city many times last year and with Puerto de la Cruz, I think is by far the nicest area on the island.
