Tirana is a very Western-oriented city.
Tirana is a very Western-oriented city. Many government buildings fly both the Albanian and European flags. This is interesting because Albania is a candidate for EU membership. Tirana's Great Park, with its artificial lake, is a green oasis, perfect for strolling. Directly on the lake is the wonderful Mullixhiu Restaurant, a very charming establishment. It's particularly exciting to rediscover Albanian cuisine there: Mediterranean, down-to-earth, delicious, and creatively interpreted. Overall, Tirana is a manageable, lively city where many things are still relatively affordable. I can't say much about the nightlife. Unfortunately, the National Museum was closed for renovations. I was in Tirana in August, when it was already quite hot. I was impressed by the city's atmosphere. I believe there's much more to discover in the country, for example, the port city of Durrës. For those who enjoy scenic views or hiking, Albania is certainly a dream country. Discovering culinary experiences makes a vacation in Tirana particularly appealing. It's important to reiterate that Albania is still a very affordable country. Interesting town to start a visit in Albania. Lively with lots of restaurants and bars as well as some interesting museums which enable you to learn about Albania's past and better understand the country. BunkArt1 is a very impressive and well documented museum which I highly recommend. It is a great city to visit, a lot to do and much to entertain. Food is delicious: Byrek for breakfast, caffes/expressos the best ones (Mulliri as suggestion), "OPA" - fast food. Restaurants, varies, but generally on the rural areas, "te Nari" - fresh juicy meat, "Illuminators" - perfect wine and food. Not to forget about Ice-creams to "9 (nente) katchet" or Martini. One of the most positive surprises during my trips (and i've visited already a few places all across the globe). I expected dirt, baggers & chaos but I recieved a great, emerging city with a lot to do and to see. Was very surprised with many options for food and drink, both local and with foreign cusine. City is changing and it's changing for the better. Nice to discover such places. Btw, it's worth to roam outside of the city center and visit Bektashi Order.
