An interesting place, a short walk to the castle with good parking facilities. Quite hilly for walking, a great italian restaurant about 100 yard walk, a busy pub across the road. The Castle was quite an experience in itself and we loved the free community museum down the street. Allow a couple of hours to see everything. If you walk halfway across the old bridge you can take a photo with one foot in Wales and the other in England. Chepstow is a village with an amazing history.
Chepstow is a village with an amazing history. It is overlooked by tourists in my view. The castle was a family home to the medieval power couple - William Marshal and Isabel de Clare. The castle is noted for its architecture, and is very walkable. There are sidewalk signs that will provide you with insights as to the various shops that existed at each address in Beaufort square. Three main walking routes around and near the village are designated by colored tiles on the walk ways. Lots of quaint shops and cafes. There is a Greggs available. Getting cash, however, is tricky. There is only one bank - Lloyd's - with two outdoor ATMs. Most shopkeepers preferred cash, but will accept contactless payments (cards).
