A city famous for its castle. Otherwise, classic countryside, from the point of view of gastronomy, nothing that would in any way stand out above the Danish standard. Bad taxi service, quite problematic for those who don't come by car.

We took a break from Copenhagen and spent 2 days and 1 night...
We took a break from Copenhagen and spent 2 days and 1 night in Hillerod, easy to get to by train. Quite a quiet town with huge lake and romantic castle, a wonderful place to visit. We had a picnic in the castle grounds and beautiful gardens. A tour of the castle, with audio guide was great for kids too, aged 10 and 12 ! Boat trip was excellent and good value. We even found a playground for the children. Lots of good restaurants with castle views !

As the owners of the place weren't there at all and wouldn't...
As the owners of the place weren't there at all and wouldn't be until days after we had booking confirmation and PAID FOR and hadn't let us or another couple know either and place was used rooms left uncleaned or made up garbage and used linens piled up in the kitchen we didn't stay the 2nd night. Hillerod itself has little to offer except that it's cheaper than expensive Copenhagen and accessible by train.

I was there for a mountain bike race which was taking place on the Sunday. I was also checking out on the Sunday, but the kind lady offered me to come back to the hotel in the afternoon to shower in the same room and pick up all my things. This level of service is not normal in Dk.
