Copacabana surprised us, but was a fantastic place to visit and at no time did we feel unsafe or threatened. The people are very very friendly and really try hard to communicate with you when English is not their language (in a lot of ways). The town is a good stop between La Paz and Peru but is nice enough itself with good access to walks and Isla del Sol etc. Really worth visiting the various Inca sites in town and around, including Inca Baths just outside, with its little museum and mummified body. Copacabana is a small town, not accessible by plane. It has a nice feel, although there are lots of people who work for tourist companies and restaurants who will approach you to try to get you to use their services. They're friendly and not aggressive. Our day trip to Isla del Sol was nice. We hiked to the temple and had wonderful views. On the boat returning to Copacabana we made a detour to a sort of makeshift restaurant. We were told we'd be there for 50 minutes. What most people did was choose a trout from the pools that were netted off from the lake, and it was prepared for lunch. The trout was the best I've had, but it was strange not to know we'd be going there. I wanted to go to the Poncho Museum but couldn't find it. A local told me where she thought it was, but there was no sign indicating it was there. After wandering around town a bit, I stopped in at the Pit Stop Bakery, which had delicious baked goods, and good coffee.Guest review byCarolUnited States - 8.0

Quite a vibrant place with lots to do and see. Take a walk up the Calvary to the crosses at the stop. Also Isla del Sol is a nice day out with a walk across the island. It took us about 3.5 - 4hrs to do. Male sure you have water. Church / cathedral was lovely but strangely they dont allow you to take photos. Copacabana can be very cold so the fact that you have radiators, hot water bottles and, best of all, a fabulously efficient log burner make the apartment warm and cosy. Excellent cafe for breakfast virtually next door. The design of the apartment gives great views of everything, even allowing moonlight in through the cupola. Is not in the center but with a 10 min walk you get there or you can take a taxi for 10 Bolivians. Very economic and pleasant. You also got free tea anytime, nice touch.
