This hotel is a nice option for a quick 5-10 min walk to the old town. We were in a spacious attic unit with a large bathroom. The pool was a definitely a nice addition but it was too crowded for any swimming, more like a nice soaking. Breakfast was delicious with lots of options.

Perfect location for exploring Bruges. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. We're past the age where old stone steps leading to a room, or rooms on the third floor with no elevator are charming. Having a modern hotel right in the historic district was a boon.

Beautiful Bruges is a picturesque destination for people who love the arts. There are lots of museums and cultural things to do. Especially its medieval heritage is impressive. Bruges is also good for fine dining. In summer it can be a bit bustling with too many travel groups, but after 5 o'clock when these have left, it's truly beautiful to walk through the old city.

The city is beautiful and full of small cobbled streets and canals. We enjoyed exploring on foot and visiting the many churches and historic buildings. We found something/somewhere new to see every day during the week we spent in Bruges. The Basilica is well worth a visit as is the Belfry in the main square. The Historium is informative and the Cathedral is stunning. The Korean restaurant “Bowls’ is excellent. Grand Cafe Belfort in the main square serves a good range of reasonably priced tasty dishes. I wasn’t keen on the many cyclists who rode through the crowds in the squares and narrow streets. Most of them did not slow at all to accommodate and it was scary at times. I didn’t like seeing the horses pulling the carts carrying tourists. They seemed to be relentlessly worked, despite the temperatures touching 30’ on some days. I did google the regulations on the horses and their welfare and i was reassured a little but , at times, the horses just looked tired and fed up.

Arriving in Calais you can drive to Bruges in half an hour.

Arriving in Calais you can drive to Bruges in half an hour. It’s a very beautiful city. Fascinating medieval architecture. An easy atmosphere and you can walk everywhere - as well as taking canal boat trips or horse driven carriages. There are lots of tourists in the centre but the side streets are quiet. A lot of independent stores and many cafes and restaurants - though we wish many of the restaurants didn’t close their kitchens at 9:30pm! We’ve visited twice and found good exhibitions, a great Hotel ( the Grand Hotel Normandy ) and the best embroidery shop I've ever seen.

Lovely city to visit. Walking is the best way to see it. A few restaurant/cafes in the main square weren't great - so take your time to choose. Great wrap and sandwich shop near the accommodation, Bars Des Amis is great with really friendly bar staff. Mozart ribs are highly recommended- amazing! Waffle and coffee down by the river also good value and delicious. Good market to walk around near the water too. Salvador Dali Museum was a highlight.

One of the most picturesque towns I've ever witnessed.

One of the most picturesque towns I've ever witnessed. The research you do online before visiting a place like Bruges simple do not do this place justice. It will blow you away. Architecturally stunning, and perfectly preserved, with well thought out city planting, beautiful floral arrangements, extremely clean and well maintained.

Bruges is wonderful. It was so easy to walk around.

Bruges is wonderful. It was so easy to walk around. We visited the Historium and experienced 15th Century Bruges in VR. I was so happy as the House of Niccolo books by Dorothy Dunnett start in Bruges. The rest of the museum was fascinating, with lots of interactive displays. I booked us on a walking tour and boat trip with City Tours. Marc, our Guide, was really informative and gave us plenty of time to ask questions, yet kept us moving. The boat trip was far too short, I could have stayed on the water, looking at the buildings for hours. The rest of the family went up the Belfry from which they had great views over Bruges. I wandered around the Wednesday market. We also visited St John's Hospital which is now an art museum. I'm glad I went. The best place we ate at was Cambrinus. What a great place, with a menu of 400 beers and all the food cooked in beer. We booked, as we were warned it was busy. It had a great atmosphere. We ate at Lio's in the grounds of St John's Hospital. A tapas style lunch. Very relaxing.

Although Hotel du Theatre is very close to the center of Bruges, this side is of the city is very quite all day. Beautiful room, with spacious bathroom. Comfortable bed. The staff was polite and helpful. As we stayed only one night and wanted to taste the sweets and pastries at a bakery close to the hotel, we didn't have breakfast there.
