Sofia is the Bulgarian capital and its largest city, situated at the foot of Vitosha Mountain in the very center of the Balkan Peninsula. With a variety of architectural styles, picturesque scenery and easy access to outdoor activities, this city is a definite must-see!
From well-preserved city walls built in the 7th century BC through to the early Medieval buildings. From the 4th-century Rotunda St. George and 10th-century Boyana Church with its stunning 13th-century frescoes to Socialist-era monumental constructions, Sofia is a real treat for history lovers.
Most of the popular landmarks are located in the Oborishte district, the most central part of the city featuring plenty of greenery, cobbled streets and the most popular landmark, the Neo-Byzantine Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
Sofia has plenty of natural sites too, including the renowned thermal and mineral springs, the primary reason Thracians established the city here before the 7th century BC. Enjoy a walk in the most popular parks, the Borisova gradina or the impressive Vitosha Nature Park with more than 6,500 acres within the city limits.
From hiking to skiing on the Vitosha and from sightseeing to relaxing in mineral springs, Sofia has plenty of fun for everyone! On Booking.com you can find nearly 190 properties in the city, from 5-star central accommodations to convenient hotels near Sofia Airport.
Beautiful and lively city. A lot of places of interest to visit - the Cathedral Alexander Nevski is impressive.
A lot of museums, art galleries and nice city parks and Vitosha mountain park.
A lot of restaurants with excellent food.
Easy walking in the central part of the city. Public transportation is very convenient. Taxi rides are not expensive.
Definitely recommend to everyone.

Sofia is very walkable.
Sofia is very walkable. I didn't need to use the metro or taxis for my itinerary. I spent 2.5/3 days there and saw everything I needed to leisurely.
The churches are beautiful. I recommend visiting them all, even briefly. Vitosha Boulevard is great but a little bit of a tourist trap. I'd still recommend walking along there and picking up souvenirs, having food and drink.
Shishman Street is less of a tourist trap and is lively during the evenings.
Food is good in general. There are plenty of options. I particularly liked Arbat (Russian restaurant) which is opposite the Russian Orthodox Church, St Nicholas. There are also many market stalls around, mostly between here and the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
If you want some comfort/western food, I'd recommend Skaptoburger on Shishman Street - really good.
Nightlife is also great - Shishman Street and those nearby (Bar Friday, Beach Bar, Kristal Bar, etc.) and also many nightclubs around if that's of interest.

Sofia is a capital yo get lost on The paths.
Sofia is a capital yo get lost on The paths. To walk through the city and to try all the pastries and food is an unforgettable experience. The emblematic monuments, specially the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral will leave you breathless.
The location is the greatest value of this property. Placed very closely to the shopping and pedestrian zone with an underground station 3 min walk. The staff is nice, flexible and helpful. Public transport, especially the underground is well organised and efficient. The tube station is very close and you can relay on it. There are several small, but cosy coffee shops with traditional Bulgarian snacks or international cuisine. Everywhere you may pay using cards. In 90% staff is great and you will enjoy.
Simple and easy going place, friendly staff, good location - the city center is a 15 minutes' walk, and there is a metro station a few corners away. The furniture is retro Bulgarian, and so is the bathroom which features a shower without a shower cabin -.a typically Bulgarian idea found even in more upmarket accommodations sometimes. The balcony was a nice addition on a warm April night. The restaurant downstairs is operated by the same owners and it has been famous in the neighborhood.
The hotel is very close to the central railway station and the center of Sofia. We were able to left the luggage when we arrived early in the morning and go out to explore the city. Due to some unexpected adventures with Bulgarian rail travel we haven't slept that night and were very tired but the receptionist pointed us to the coffee station and a lounge where we had some rest and reconsidered. Without her help we wouldn't see Sofia this time around as our flight was next morning.
In the center of Sofia , very close to almost every historical place , very cosy , lift avaliable , central heating ,rest in silent , owner speaks , writes and understands English ( it’s important and very hard to find in Bulgaria ) We could’nt meet him , but he was very kind and friendly on the phone .
An advice ; La Biccicleta restaurant is very close and the best italian food in town , day&night !
Only one negative situation ; no free parking place
The perfect hotel for 1-3-5 stay in Sofia. It is part of the campus of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, very clean and having a nice restaurant with garden and good food. Nice and helping personnel. In the surroundings you can find many examples of the constructivist architecture of communism times - these are part of the institutes of the Academy of Sciences. The hotel is located in a quiet neighbourhood and has a big parking.
The owner was amazing. We were so lucky to meet such an amazing person out of the many people Bulgaria. He made my trip so much better, and we have had the best stay at his apartment. The owner is so helpful and kind he helped us rent a car and reach the airport. He didn’t leave us until he made sure we were safe. I will forever be grateful to him.
Extremely friendly staff with good recommendations for restaurants and activities. The room was spacious and spotless. You get your own fridge with freezer and your own washing machine. The airconditioning works great. The location of the hotel is peaceful and a short walk from the city center. All in all perfect for a stay in Sofia.
The hotel is situated in the area with quite decent public transport connection (busses). The room was big, pillows nice, good bathroom and table with kettle, tea and filtered water. Quire stylish. The breakfast was really good, especially Bulgarian specialties and chia pudding with jam and peanut butter
Breakfast was horrible! The room was dusty and distroyed. I will do complain at booking. This hotel can't be Best Western, even if it is in Bulgaria.
The parking wasn't free. The elevator was small and dirty. The bathroom was horrible. Nobody cleans the room.
A bit out of center of Sofia but owners are very nice and helpful and in the apartment you have all you need for cooking. Coffeemaker is also a nice touch. Great craft beer bar, coffee shop and Bulgarian food restaurant are in the 5 min by foot
We liked the closeness of this hotel to historical sites and parks in Sofia. It was convenient to restaurants and shopping. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. We even booked our last two nights here at the end of our time in Bulgaria.
Perfect location, great breakfast, great breakfast room, comfortable beds, the hotel is above average for Bulgaria. The staff were friendly. Very happy with the price for value for money. We would definitely stay here again.
The location, the house is clean, the facilities in the apartment was perfect, tv although this is in Bulgarian, but you are in bulgary so in my case I used my Netflix, the silent in the apartment.
The hotel is beautifully designed. Modern and clean. We needed a hotel close to the airport for one night with 3 kids, it was perfect for our first night in Bulgaria. The breakfast was delicious.
I always stay at Intercontinental when in Sofia as it's simply the best hotel in town (and probably in Bulgaria). The staff are very welcoming and polite, the rooms are clean and spacious.
My second stay. Close to the center and a secured parking space right in front of the hostel (7€ for 24 hours). Super nice staff who taught me all the history of Bulgaria 🇧🇬
Art Hotel is a real find in Sophia center. New and clean, with a great location. I easily walked to all the sites, restaurants, cafes and outdoor market.
