The building has a lot of colonial charm. It was very quiet. The bed was comfortable. Hot water was great! We had appetizers and drinks at the restaurant and everything was really good. And the portions were enough that we ended up not ordering dinner.

I didn’t really like anything. The front desk made me carry my bag up 4 flights of stairs. The room was so hot when I got inside. There was no coffee in the rooms at all and I asked multiple time for it. The shower was also clogged.

San Jose as city is not too much to believe as other cities and is a crowded city We stayed at the outside skirts of San Jose where you have more nature, mountains/scenery and less city life and visited the city several times.

If you like a big city, San Jose is great.
If you like a big city, San Jose is great. We live in southern Costa Rica and only go to San Jose for doctor visits and shopping. It's best to take a taxi or Uber in San Jose. The traffic is crazy. Be sure to use the WAZE app instead of Google for driving around. It stays more up to date.

I did a tour for the first two weeks of the volcano area, rain forest, Caribbean, and then the Pacific side of the island. During the tour, we also ziplined, rode horseback, white water rafting, soaked in hot springs, and hiked the rain forest and volcano areas.
When the tour ended I stayed for another 10 days in downtown San Jose and did day trips out of the apartment.

We stayed here on our last night but wished we hadn't.
We stayed here on our last night but wished we hadn't. The hotel was good but there was nothing special about the city and we would have preferred to be back in Alajuela where we stayed on the first night. There was much less traffic there and lots of different birds in the trees. The park in San Jose only had grackles.

There is plenty to do in San Jose and the surrounding area.
There is plenty to do in San Jose and the surrounding area. Three places to recommend: the Jade Museum, the Post Office Museum and Lankester Botanical Garden on the road to Paraiso. The Jade Museum is a revelation - it is in a new building and has a wonderful exhibition about the Pre-Colombian inhabitants of Central America. Don't be put off by its title - it is not a museum of dusty cabinets full of jade objects. Just to the right of the entrance to the Central Post Office is a museum with displays of various themes - space, calypso, biodiversity - illustrated with stamps from all over the world. The Lankester Gardens is a gem. It's a centre for the study of orchids so visit at the right time of year, e.g. March, when many are in flower. The gardens are beautifully laid out and very well cared for.
The property was nice and was very clean and comfortable. The hotel is very far from the center of San Jose. A lot of tour companies use this hotel as the starting point to their tours of Costa Rica. If you want to be in San Jose which is very nice to visit do not stay here. It is far from the airport and anything that San Jose has to offer. It will cost you an expensive taxi or Uber ride to get to San Jose and back to the hotel.
The food was so so and expensive. It is better to go out of the hotel to eat.
Cozy hotel, close to University of Costa Rica at San José, located in San Pedro. Walkable to the nearest mall (Mall San Pedro - around 15 minutes walking from the hotel), by car it is at 10-15 minutes far away from San José down town. My arriving flight was very early, and they provided me an available room despite I arrived very early morning. Nice breakfast (the common breakfast included gallo pinto -beans and rice-, eggs and fruits, but they offered me several options for breakfast). Lovely staff.
Beautiful property. This house that has been turned into a hotel is very luxurious. It also was very clean with no black mold. We arrived in Costa Rica during the rainy season. I am sensitive to black mold. Every hotel we stayed at but this one has a black mold issue. This one does not. It has a beautiful pool, beautiful view, this is the nicest non-chain hotel I found in San Jose Costa Rica. I liked this hotel so much we came back a day early to San Jose so we could stay here again.
This is by far the most luxurious and best hotel I stayed in during the 4 week holiday in Costa Rica. Even compared to other top hotels I've been in around the world it is up to par. The rooms are freshly and tastefully renovated, all amenities work in top quality, the common areas are spacious and inviting to spend time there. The breakfast offers great variety and great quality. The bar also is very good and enjoying your drinks overlooking the Plaza de la Cultura is really nice.
I stayed at Studio Hotel Boutique as a stopover in San Jose before travelling around Costa Rica. The hotel was very nice and staff were incredibly friendly/ supportive in answering questions and booking additional travel for us.
I used the hotel's gym and had a great breakfast. The hotel is more luxurious than it even looks in the pictures and a friendly concierge recommended a local restaurant for us to have our first typical Costa Rican dish of the trip!
Stayed in a twin room. Bed was a good size and comfortable. Aircon in the room was good and not very loud. Shower pressure was a little on the weak side. Hairdryer was good. Nice to have a pool at the hotel. Had breakfast and one dinner here. Both were nice. There is a big park nearby. Took ubers to the restaruant area of San Jose and to the airport. Much cheaper than getting taxis.
I highly recommend this place. The hotel is super clean and well equipped. The location is great, the staff is very friendly and helpful and the cafe/restaurant/pub downstairs is super nice. The area is safe, the street is well illuminated and next to it there is the Mexican Embassy with a security guard present at night. This will become my go to place when I'm back in San Jose.
The location for visiting the museums in San Jose is excellent. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is modern and clean, and our room was furnished very nicely. The bed was comfortable and the linens were of very good quality. Some reviewers complained of noise from other rooms, but we could not hear our neighbors. The rooftop sitting area is beautiful.
After hiking for weeks it was lovely to stay here in comfort. The hotel is good to use with breakfast and free airport shuttle service. The staff are attentive and helpful even the Security guard tried to help me get my shoes dry before my flight. The hotel has a great view of San Jose. The breakfast is delicious with a choice of Costa Rican cuisine and continental.
Location is excellent, right in the middle of downtown. Staff is very helpful, they don't speak perfect English, but make an effort and managed to communicate what was needed. Mariolet (sp?) in the front desk was especially helpful with changing the room, priting some documents, and a few other things. Breakfast is the usual Costa Rica fare with some options.
We booked this hotel last minute for just the one night, but we were very glad that we did. For the price, the hotel is very well equipped and the staff were very friendly. Breakfast was also very good (one of the best banana breads I’ve ever had in fact). We were glad to be in downtown for anyone unsure which area to stay in.
The property was very clean and comfortable. It was a great start to 3 weeks in Costa Rica. Breakfast everyday was wonderful. It was a standard Costa Rican breakfast. This is a no frills mid range boutique hotel. This is a great place to rest your head after arriving in San Jose.
The place is well disposed for solo traveler: locker, box to store items in the bed, bathroom to hang your clothes and items, … Clean and facility on top. There is also a nice rooftop space.
Also the neighborhood seems much better than the rest of downtown San Jose.
It is a well appointed apartment in the downtown area of San Jose. The large apartment has an equipped kitchen. air, lots of towels. The staff was more than accommodating when I was late arriving. They assisted me at every turn.
Great hotel near the city center of San Jose. Ideal to stay a night before starting your trip in Costa Rica. Decent rooms, a pleasant swimming pool and an excellent breakfast. The staff was very welcoming.
Super friendly staff. Very helpful!! Breakfast was great. Location is safe and in a good area to shop. Bus station in front of the hotel to go downtown. I stayed for four nights!
Safe area in San José. You have a private parking possibility if you tell the hotel in advance. Good to stay after your long flight because it’s near the airport (15 min drive)
The location is great. Close to the Sabana park. It is a peaceful place. Not far from downtown San José. There ia very nice pool and the best japonese restaurant in town.
