Set in a tropical garden and located just 492 feet from the beach, Vista Verde offers five private rooms in a rustic Caribbean-style environment. I stayed in the private double bed room upstairs and the beds were SUPER comfortable, I slept soo good. The staff were very helpful with everything and the entire hotel was impeccably clean. The location is a bit hidden, but in a great location and very close to the beach and town.
Surrounded by attractive tropical gardens, Physis Caribbean Bed & Breakfast offers bright accommodations. The owners/managers Juliet and Matt are AMAZING!! They went above and beyond to make sure we were extremely happy and well taken care of, and they gave us all of the best local recommendations (be sure to eat at Stachu's and visit the Jaguar Rescue Center and Cahuita National Park!!). We absolutely LOVED everything about Physis Caribbean Bed & Breakfast, and we are already planning to come back! Our room was impeccably clean and comfortable, the hammocks in the beautiful garden area are a perfect place to relax, and they made us a delicious made-to-order breakfast every morning. The best beach in the entire area is just a 4 minute walk from Physis, and we also enjoyed being in such a centrally located area to ride bikes to go snorkeling in Punta Uva, visit the Jaguar Rescue Center, and jump on a bus or taxi to get to Puerto Viejo and Cahuita. We loved all of the conversations we had with Juliet and Matt, who are such a beautiful, sweet, and adventurous couple, and we also loved getting to meet their two brilliant sons. I look forward to coming back to Physis regularly from now on! Thank you again, Juliet and Matt, for such a perfect vacation! :-)

Sunshine Caribe offers rooms in Puerto Viejo. Among the various facilities of this property are a garden and a terrace. Some rooms at the property include a balcony with a mountain view. When we booked the room, we picked the cheapest double room and didn’t double check the pictures and everything. Luckily we were able to switch rooms after the first night. That was great. The first room was very small and dark. While the next room was the opposite. The beds were also much more comfortable there. The location was great too. Quite and still close to town and the beach. There is also the brewing company restaurant very close. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Google translate helped us to communicate since out Spanisch wasn’t that good. There is a small kitchen with a few utensils which enable you to cook basic meals I’d say. The rooms are clean and new. They also get cleaned on request should you stay longer. We also enjoyed the hammock in the balcony a lot. The rooms have mossi nets on all windows and not over the bed. That makes sleeping also more comparable to Europe but you have to close the door. All in all a lovely stay. Especially when the weather is not that good and you spend a bit more time indoors.

The best parts of Puerto Viejo are: it's small and easy to get around, it's got a lot of great food options. I also really like the Jaguar Rescue Center and Project Ara (Manzanillo). The bad parts of Puerto Viejo are: It's very noisy at night in the center, trash and smell, and it's necessary to be careful because there have been incidents of violence, especially with women.
The beach and nature was beautiful, but It seems like there are many rude and arrogant people there. The servers do not know how to take care of their customers and I had one of the worst experiences at one dine in. The taxi drivers lied to me and ripped me off. I will Never return to Costa Rica or at least for a while... many people here just want to hustle you and take your money and are arrogant. There are better places Costa Rica left me a bad impression I guess my brother was right.
This town is basically a bit run down with a lot of locals trying to sell weed and cocaine. Almost all restaurants are open air. The beaches were OK, but not your typical Caribbean beaches with clear turquoise water. There really isn't very good snorkeling from the shore even south of PV.
Great location. Untapped. Very basic but that’s what gives it its beauty. The beaches are gorgeous with the black sand. People are very friendly. Tamara has excellent food. Lidia’s place has amazing food too. Don’t miss the wine and chocolate tasting at Choco. And do a chocolate tour if you get a chance- very informative and delicious.
Puerto Viejo is set up for tourists so some things (especially excursions, food and the supermarkets ) can be a little pricey. The local food is very nice (and much cheaper), plenty of wildlife - monkeys & sloths in the trees In our hostel. The Jaguar rescue centre is excellent. Nice place to relax on the beach although October time was quite rainy.
Great place meet interesting people from around the world, relax on the beach, surf some fun waves, see beautiful tropical jungles, eat great food...and if you want to, party as well. No high rise hotels or big chains, only small local shops, restaurants and places to stay. Exactly what I was looking for.
Everything!!! It is a gem in downtown Puerto Viejo and Monica the owner is the best! She has a fantastic sense of style so the decor and bedding and cleanliness is top notch. She goes above and beyond to make your stay comfortable, safe and fun! This place exceeded our expectations and our expectations were high after reAding all the positive reviews. Its location could not have been better for us-close by the bus stop, bank, tour offices, supermarket, beach , bars , and the best restaurants in town! Truly a great find and we will be back!
You feel completly immersed in the jungle with the monkey noises and birds ( which was really cool!) but still you can sleep. The owners where nice. The breakfast was one of the best I had in Costa Rica. Although you need to walk a bit to the near beach, they have bicycles to rent and that seems to be the main transport used by travelers in Cocles and Puerto Viejo to visit the differente pueblos and beaches. Really nice hostel to relax and you have a few places to visit nearby apart of the beaches.
Big light room with mosquito screens in windows. Bathroom so nice and so on. Believe me, this room had it all, brand new, and is some of the best value for money we have seen in CR. Host and staff was not only friendly, but real warm-hearted. Puerto Viejo is a bit to tourist-smashed to my taste, but this place, I would come back to, any time. Aprox. 100 meter to the beach along quiet road and 300 meter to town. Close to all and quiet in night.
Eric and Sharon (the owners) were the best hosts we’ve ever had!!! You have a pool, relaxing deck, and the best breakfast in Costa Rica! There is diverse wildlife in the property including monkeys and sloths. There is also a ton of different vegetation the Eric is more than happy to show the guests. We stayed 4 nights and it wasn’t enough. Definitely best hotel in Costa Rica.
Really nice and cosy boutique hotel - liked our stay soo much! Hidden gem in Puerto Viejo. As pv/Caribbean side is quite rainy a lot of stays are a bit “moisty” (at least what our other friends experienced who stayed at other places) but this hotel is dry - not to underestimate :)
Feel like home in Puerto Viejo. A wonderful place close to the beach and town in the jungle. See many animals and enjoy your beer in the hammock. The owner will help you out with everything you need and is taking care of you to have the best days in Costa Rica! :)
Lots of nature around it, beautiful trees, saw some miniature venemous frogs in the garden. Room had a nice balcony. Location is good, you can walk to cocles beach, about 700meters from the hotel.
Very friendly and accomodating staff. Nice facilities at the beach including chairs and hammocks. Best hotel breakfast I have ever had, with made to order items, not typical buffet style.
The room was simple, clean and spacious. The room was a good size and had a private bathroom which was great value for money compared to a previous hotel we had stayed at in Puerto Viejo.
Great hotel with cozy bungalows, pool and garden looked great, near the beach and center while not being too central and near the nature. Staff was forthcoming and we had a great time
Generally the property itself is nice. Good quiet location. Playa negra in front is beautiful and hotel maintains it well, even though it's a public beach.
Nice staff, great location, very close to the sea of Punta Uva and next to one of the best places of caribbean food of all Puerto Viejo.
Hotel Pura Vida is a friendly, well-kept and safe place to stay. It’s close enough to walk or ride a bike to town center and the beach.
It is a beach front hotel
Loved the Treehouse, was great location and so close to the ocean. Close enough to everything but you feel like you are in a remote area. Got in late and was nice to have breakfast brought to us in the morning. Would recommend renting a bike since everything is so close to cycle to or pick up groceries/dine out or shop. Staff were very friendly and helpful if we had any questions. Was just the two of us so we had the Garden House. When walking around the facility, would be a great place for families or larger number of people. Each Treehouse is designed differently and all seem to be fairly private from one another. Heard the Howler moneys the first night there and was lucky enough to have spotted a sloth. Overall very happy :)
The accommodation/lodge is truly amazing! You feel like sleeping outside in the jungle. The beds are very comfortable and you even have a jacuzzi! The beach is a 2 minute walk away and is totally abandoned. The personnel was super friendly and helped spotting wildlife! An amazing stay and really nothing negative to mention!
Exceptional service from all the staff, everything from the menu at the restaurant and beach club was absolutely delicious. Fresh, super tasty, varied breakfast menu. Extra comfy bed and pillows. We loved the open air rain shower. Vibrant, colourful décor in sync with the exuberance of the jungle all around the premises.
Superb property beach side.... the little touches make it exceptional.. cooler welcome drink hats sunscreen beach toys and more.... staff are attentive.... excellent way to end our three week trip to Costa Rica
- Great location, across from beach and close to restaurants - Friendly staff - Breakfast was tasty and filling, the bread was excellent - Bedroom & bathroom cleaned daily
