San Jose as city is not too much to believe as other cities and is a crowded city We stayed at the outside skirts of San Jose where you have more nature, mountains/scenery and less city life and visited the city several times.

If you like a big city, San Jose is great.

If you like a big city, San Jose is great. We live in southern Costa Rica and only go to San Jose for doctor visits and shopping. It's best to take a taxi or Uber in San Jose. The traffic is crazy. Be sure to use the WAZE app instead of Google for driving around. It stays more up to date.

I did a tour for the first two weeks of the volcano area, rain forest, Caribbean, and then the Pacific side of the island. During the tour, we also ziplined, rode horseback, white water rafting, soaked in hot springs, and hiked the rain forest and volcano areas. When the tour ended I stayed for another 10 days in downtown San Jose and did day trips out of the apartment. People are family-oriented, friendly, and supportive. You can drink the water and use US electric devices. Go, you will love it.

We stayed here on our last night but wished we hadn't.

We stayed here on our last night but wished we hadn't. The hotel was good but there was nothing special about the city and we would have preferred to be back in Alajuela where we stayed on the first night. There was much less traffic there and lots of different birds in the trees. The park in San Jose only had grackles.

There is plenty to do in San Jose and the surrounding area.

There is plenty to do in San Jose and the surrounding area. Three places to recommend: the Jade Museum, the Post Office Museum and Lankester Botanical Garden on the road to Paraiso. The Jade Museum is a revelation - it is in a new building and has a wonderful exhibition about the Pre-Colombian inhabitants of Central America. Don't be put off by its title - it is not a museum of dusty cabinets full of jade objects. Just to the right of the entrance to the Central Post Office is a museum with displays of various themes - space, calypso, biodiversity - illustrated with stamps from all over the world. The Lankester Gardens is a gem. It's a centre for the study of orchids so visit at the right time of year, e.g. March, when many are in flower. The gardens are beautifully laid out and very well cared for.

Absolutely amazing staff! Especially Veronica and Jorge (and one other young woman whose name I forget!) who went above and beyond to help us book things and get where we needed - we were so impressed with them we changed our booking on return to San Jose to stay with them again! Nice hotel feel with a little plant garden area, definitely get the upgraded room as there is more light and the rooms are more spacious. Comfortable beds, good breakfast. This place changed our whole holiday because of how good the staff were!

The hotel is convenient located 10 minutes away from the airport and offers pick up and drop off shuttle for free which is great for someone that needs to stay only a couple of nights in San Jose. The room is very spacious and the bed is comfortable. The amenities offered in the bathroom are also great and internet speed works just fine. The pool area is beautiful and the gym has the necessary equipments to work out. The staff is very friendly and ready to help with any tip that we needed about the city/transportation.

Probably one of the most wonderful hotel experiences I have ever had. Beautiful architecture and decor, mountain views, and excellent service from the staff. Everything was over the top. They offer an incredible breakfast spread (with many, many juices). Pool/bar area is very luxurious. Adjacent to several shops, a spa, grocery, food truck court (very nice, with a large, collaborative patio area, and restaurants. Also very close to the San Jose airport. We will return to this magnificent hotel again!

The owner and the stuff members were sooo friendly and helpful! They helped me with everything I needed and I even enjoyed it more being there because of their kindness. The room was quite big, there was enough space to store my stuff and even a couch. The living and kitchen area in the hotel were cosy and from the balcony you could see beautiful lights from San Jose. The breakfast was delizioso. They even served me breakfast early in the morning when I had to leave.

Rooms were plenty spacious and you could not ask for a more central location. We were only in San Jose for a day but we were able to walk to see everything. Also the breakfast was UNREAL - so good and so many options. We also had a drink at their bar after are long flight. The staff was very welcoming and nice. Loved this place. Near all museums yet off the main roads. So many outdoor sitting areas for relaxation. We enjoyed the spa every night and my kid loved the pool. Lovely modern facade and reception area. Room and bed were both large and comfortable and the room was very clean. I would definitely recommend the rooftop restaurant at the hotel - San Jose is not easy to navigate at night so we ended up eating there both nights and appreciated having a place with good food that we could rely on (it also has a great view)! The location was very central.

The hostel is located in a central area of San José. It a villa from the '50-'60 converted into a hostel with private and dorms. The rooms and the common areas are suggestive, and you can still see the former use as a private house. Bathrooms and rooms are not modern, but that is the charm of this hotel.
