This boutique hotel is a true hidden gem in San Jose! Nestled in lush jungle surroundings, it feels more like a secluded retreat than a city hotel, yet it's conveniently located just 15 minutes from SJO airport. It's the perfect spot for us to conclude a long trip to Costa Rica. Our room is immaculately clean, beautifully decorated, and features wonderfully effective AC and a delightful hot shower. Dining at the on-site restaurant was a highlight, with some of the best food we've tasted in Costa Rica. All staff is incredibly kind and attentive, enhancing our stay with their unique touch. This place is simply unique — a must-experience to truly appreciate its charm!

The room rent included breakfast which was served in the restaurant near the main entrance. The breakfast was good; the coffee was good. The best part was the birds in the garden. You could hear them starting sunrise. My wife took a lot of pictures. There was a group of photographers who also took a lot of pictures.

The place is a hidden gem. Beautiful is an understatement. It has a gorgeous, large garden with fruit trees, dozens of birds singing, tables outside to sit and enjoy breakfast in the morning. The swimming pool is nicely positioned.
The room is spacious, although very basic. It's quiet, comfortable and clean and so was the bathroom.
The girl who did my check in and check out (Gabriela, if I remember well) was an angel. Extremely helpful, kind and empathetic.

This was the perfect place to stay on our first night in Costa Rica. We were looking for a place with transportation from the airport, and Mathieu was very easy to coordinate with for this. The room was spacious and nicely appointed, we loved sleeping with the fresh air and waking up to the sounds of the birds and insects. We also loved relaxing on the private porch in the morning, and even saw a toucan fly by just as we were sitting down to eat! Breakfast was great as well, we are a family of 4 and everyone was happy. Would love to stay here again!

I stayed pretty close to a large shopping mall--just a few blocks away--so the restaurant options were great. I ate at "Mahalo"--great poke! The house is within a few miles of the airport, so getting there only cost 3 colones, and I took a Tuasa bus (for about two dollars) to get to Alajuela from downtown San Jose. The only "negative" is that there were traffic sounds, but they settled down when it got later. I would definitely stay in Alajuela again. I felt completely safe walking back alone at night after dinner.

The area is fun and easy to get around.
The area is fun and easy to get around. There are many small stores, but no good supermarkets. TONS of cafes and fast food places, so getting something to eat is easy. I'd go there again, but there's not a ton to do unless you enjoy sitting in parks, which I do.

It’s the best location to stay on your first night,...
It’s the best location to stay on your first night, especially if you arrive in the evening and don’t have an “all inclusive“ vacation booked; and best location for your last night in Costa Rica, due to the proximity to the airport.
Be warned, the red taxis are really expensive and Uber drivers are allowed to drop you off at the airport, but are not allowed to pick you up from the airport. Most places that offer accommodation, also offer a pickup service from the airport. Take it. The closer to the airport, the cheaper they get; prices start at $5 and could get to $35, $40 US dollars , depending on the distance to the airport.
Most rental cars offices are around the airport, so, look for a place to stay not too far away from the airport and one that offers drop off to a rental car office. If not, it’s always an Uber driver available. The closer to the airport, the better, for first and last night stay, because driving in the city could take a veeeeeery long time.
If you have time, walk the streets of Alajuela, people are very friendly and ready to help. Be very careful, the water tranches along the pedestrian walkways, are very deep, and the holes on the uneven pavement are deep as well, but definitely go to the city’s fresh market; it is a very interesting experience. Make sure you calculate well the prices, from corones into dollars, lots of vendors will try to take advantage of you, if you don’t pay attention. You can pay in US dollars everywhere, except for buses (long distance or local buses); the dollar bills must be pristine, one little tear anywhere on the bill, will be refused.
All in all is a nice city full of hustle and bustle, with lots of cars and people, with little parks with amazing trees, lots of perrots, delicious fresh fruits and gelatos

Quite noisy and a bit dirty. People are nice, but food was a disappointment - it was almost impossible to find fresh vegetarian food that hadn’t been processed. Everything was fried in grease and had meat in it.

Liked the food, the people and the feel of the place ,for travelers visiting friends or family walmart is right there to save a little time and money as everything is so expensive in this age and close to the airport .would be nice to have pool and sun area because that is why lots of people are there ...to get some sun
Heather and Luis really kind and do everything to make sure that you have a nice stay and that you feel welcomed! They really care about there guests and they helped me with some complicated things that I needed to fix to be able to fly back home. There is a very good balance between quality and price with a nice room and a very cute patio where they serve a nice breakfast. Great location if you want to be close to the airport, really easy to get there within 10 minutes. I think this is the best place to spend your time in Alajuela.
Don Carlos Place was the best reservation I have ever had on Booking. The hosts (Carmen & Felix) were communicative and they met us in person at the property to greet us, give the keys, give a tour, and explain the rules. They were wonderful, flexible, and easy to communicate with.
Easy check-in. Safe, quite location. Very close to central Alajuela and a 10 minute drive to the airport. The place was spacious, clean, and comfortable. It was extremely well stocked with spices in the kitchen, snacks, and thoughtful amenities.
My partner and I stayed here before our early flight from the SJO airport, and it was very convenient for this purpose, as well as cheaper than most hotels around. It's a shared house where you get your own bedroom but share bathrooms and a really nice looking kitchen. You can't walk to the airport, it's not that close, but Ubers were easy to get at around 6am and took about 10 min. We had late check in and early check out, and cleared this with the host beforehand, who were nothing but helpful.
The staff was very welcoming and kind. The hotel has a nice atmosphere, inside and outside space to chill or have breakfast. My room was super tidy and clean, AC, large shower. I used the transport from the hotel to the airport as well, which was convenient and only 5 dollars. A lot cheaper and felt safer then most taxi's.
It was an ideal place to stay a night if you want to be close to the airport.
Would definitely come here again if I need a stay in San José.
We stayed for the first 2 nights of our trip and the last night before leaving Costa Rica. The hotel staff were lovely and could not have been more helpful. The hotel location is very convenient for the airport and a central place for wandering around Alajuela, finding restaurants, etc. The garden dining area was a pleasant place to relax, and the breakfast was delicious (the best Gallo pinto of our trip).
Borüka is a simple and honest hotel with very good value for money. It's at a good location, close to San José airport. Ideal for people who arrive by plane and later travel on. The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. I had some problems with my flight (lost luggage amongst other things) and the staff did their very best to help finding solutions. Two thumbs up!
Hotel Aeropuerto is the perfect stopping off place when you’re heading to or from the airport. Sure the rooms are dated and the facilities a little old school, but the lovely little pool is fantastic and the biggest surprise was the restaurant, el Dirigo. The delicious food and microbrewery beer and kombucha were quite frankly the best part of our short stay.
location, value, cleanliness and staff. Thank goodness for Daniel who helped us with covid tests and the ATM machine and Gabriel who helped us with a taxi late at night. Best location as well. Simple but clean hotel. good breakfast right downstairs. Nice local restaurants, Mexican, Peruvian and great coffee shops.
The shuttle was excellent. I need to be close to airport for odd travel times. Very helpful staff.
Breakfast was the best and most diverse I’ve ever had at a hotel in Costa Rica. They even had fresh juice drinks I had never heard of and I have been coming to Costa Rica since 1968 with OTS. Really excellent
Probably the best hotel I've ever stayed in. It's brand new and they were super kind. The food was amazing, the bed and room was lovely and they even had free laundry, which was so amazing as the last hotel tried to charge me $20 to do a load. Amazing staff. Highly recommended.
Convenient location near airport however this place is not really accommodating for late arrival.
Our plane was late and we were very stressed that the gate will be closed and we will be with out hotel after already long and stressful day.
Very nice hotel close to the airport. We stayed there on the first and last day of our trip. Rooms are very nice and clean, food is good, staff very helpful. Location is great, right in the middle of Alajuela.
This hotel was such a gem. Close to everything! Esteban is the host and so wonderful and has great stories. I wouldn't hesitate to always make this my stay in Alajuela.
