San José traffic is a hard pull to swallow. The volcanos are covered by clouds so you may travel 2-3 hours and see nothing. The white water rafting was the highlight of the trip but not much to do. San Jose is extremely expensive. Prices are comparable to USA expensive resort prices. Ex: $4 for a soda. Also they have taxes for everything and then they ask you for more money. Their tipping is out of control

I’ve visited San Jose Costa Rica many times since the 1970s.
I’ve visited San Jose Costa Rica many times since the 1970s. It’s gotten completely jammed with traffic, but it is a beautiful city with lots to see and admire. My favorite is the old concert hall, which I’m blanking on the name, but it is the only concert hall I believe in the city. Being a city it’s always important to watch your pockets, and this is become a problem, the last couple decades. The people in general are very charming and it is definitely worth a visit.

I didn’t really like anything.
I didn’t really like anything. The front desk made me carry my bag up 4 flights of stairs. The room was so hot when I got inside. There was no coffee in the rooms at all and I asked multiple time for it. The shower was also clogged.

San Jose as city is not too much to believe as other cities...
San Jose as city is not too much to believe as other cities and is a crowded city We stayed at the outside skirts of San Jose where you have more nature, mountains/scenery and less city life and visited the city several times.

If you like a big city, San Jose is great.
If you like a big city, San Jose is great. We live in southern Costa Rica and only go to San Jose for doctor visits and shopping. It's best to take a taxi or Uber in San Jose. The traffic is crazy. Be sure to use the WAZE app instead of Google for driving around. It stays more up to date.
good value for San José /Costa Rica during high season. Basic accommodation amenities , a bar of soap and towel per person. We stayed 3 different times in transit between San José to different areas of the country - ie Manuel Antonio, guanacaste, Caribbean . Each time a different room . The upper floors are prettier with old world feel and wooden floors , The reception staff are young friendly and helpful . The hotel could do with a maintenance refresh as it’s got some great historic feeling about it .
Loved the central location to San Jose, the beautiful gardens surrounding the hotel and amazing views of the city from the pool area. The hammocks were delightful way to spend a lazy afternoon. The rooms were beautifully appointed, food was tasty and I truly appreciated the free shuttle to and from the airport. I enjoyed staying there and highly recommend a stay however, be aware there are always people in the entrance due to tour company travelers.
The room was spacious for just one person, everything very clean. the breakfast was lovely and the area where you go to eat is really nicely decorated and has lovely interior. the staff were very kind and friendly. I mostly used this as a place to stay whilst recovering jet lag and before heading to elsewhere in Costa Rica but the area was the only nice and safe area in San Jose with lots of cool bars & restaurants.
We've stayed here before. We don't like to stay for very long in San Jose, we prefer to explore all of the natural beauty Costa Rica has to offer. So when we arrive to Costa Rica, this spot is a great one to crash at for a night. Rooms are nothing fancy but they're clean and comfortable. Breakfast is included and filling. The hotel is literally a 5 minute walk from Alamo/National Rent a Car.
I had a private room at it was VERY big! I was pleasantly surprised. The bed was great, room great! Super private, almost too private (as a solo female I feel safer when I can hear others around and I really didn't). But it was fabulous for the two days in San Jose. I walked to cafes and restaurants and downtown 15-30 minute walks.
I can’t say enough good things about this hotel! The hospitality was absolutely amazing - the concierges, parking attendant, housekeepers, and restaurant staff were so kind and helpful. Great location, price, and breakfast. I would 100% recommend staying here if you’re traveling to the San Jose area!
The hotel is in a great location, very central, within a walking distance from the major tourist attractions in downtown San Jose and represents great value for money. The breakfast was tasty and good portion size. The building has a nice historical feel to it, especially inside.
Aida, is always available, helpful and welcoming. With pets pottering around and Aida practising the piano in the afternoons, the place feels wonderfully homely. Even though downtown San Jose is on your doorstep, the location is quiet. The hotel is very clean and great value.
Nice, modern and comfortable Hotel with spacious rooms. Nice pool and gym. We stayed there because between Airport and Downtown but we found out that the traffic to drive in both direction was one of the worst in San José (not Hotel fault though).
The hotel is pretty with some lovely common areas and the staff was super friendly and helpful. The rooms are simple and clean. It's close to many of the main sites in San Jose as well as an area with lots of restaurants and bars.
The location of the hotel is great, close to downtown and there are many nice restaurants within walking distance. The staff there are friendly, the decorations of the public areas are unique, definitely has its own personality.
What a gem of hotel in San Jose.
Good Food, Clean Room, generally clean premises and a good pool for a dip after a busy 10 days around costa rica. Only stayed 1 night but would be ideal for a short city break.
this was our first hotel after arriving to Costa Rica. The room was fine and clean and it had a locked parking space, which is quite important in San Jose. Walking distance to the downtown.
The hotel is close to the bus terminal, the area is a little run down but not the worst in San Jose. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The room was clean.
The location of the hotel is amazing and the house is really beautiful. It also offers a lot of separate areas to sit down. Great option when in San Jose
