FAQs about hotels in Cambridge

The Inspiration for Genius

Open-plan and open-minded, Cambridge is best known for universities dating to the 13th century. King’s College is the most popular, and its chapel choir is internationally famous. Although accessed from cobbled King’s Parade, it is best viewed from a punt on The Backs, the part of the River Cam behind.

Taking a flat bottomed punt in Cambridge is an institution and gives great views of Queen’s College Mathematical Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs at St John’s College. Upstream is Jesus Green, site of an outdoor pool and a fantastic beer festival. Next to this is Midsummer Common, a park home to the annual Strawberry Fair (and the occasional cow). Opposite are the college boathouses - get up early to see the rowers in action!

Cows also roam the Mill Pond meadow, where the river leads south to Grantchester, a quaint village with a lovely cafe. Places to eat in Cambridge include riverside restaurants and typical English pubs like The Eagle, drinking hole of DNA founders Watson & Crick.

Cambridge shopping options include a daily market (in Market Square), the Grafton Centre and the exclusive Grand Arcade, the latest addition. The Scott Polar Museum and free Fitzwilliam Museum are 2 of many fantastic Cambridge museums.

Stansted Airport is connected by train to the city’s accommodations choices on Booking.com.

Husband was at college in Cambridge so knew where to go.

Husband was at college in Cambridge so knew where to go. We visited the Botanic gardens and the Fitzwilliam Museum, both of which I would recommend. My husband & I were married in the Cambridge Registry office so we have romantic memories of the place. We did the usual walk along the Cam on Sunday morning and there were lots of boating crews training. The Old Spring opposite our hotel was a very handy traditional pub.

Everything the city had to offer was within easy walking distance of our Hotel (Hilton). Lots of places to choose from for lunch, including the city square market. Whichever hotel you pick, ensure they have car parking, its very limited and there is no real on street parking available. If you have a bicycle, you will love Cambridge.

Cambridge is a brilliant place for history and very compact...

Cambridge is a brilliant place for history and very compact so the whole of the city centre can easily be explored on foot in a day or two. If the weather is good, punting on the River (or taking part of a guided punt tour) is great fun. I went to Cambridge to meet up with friends, and we had an excellent dinner in the Free Press on Prospect Row - great beer and a reasonably priced menu, but very busy. Parties should book in advance. Lunch at the Little Rose on Trumpington Street was excellent - the staff were very helpful and there was no pressure to vacate tables. Parking in Cambridge is very expensive unless you have a space attached to your accommodation - day-trippers should use the Park & Rides around the town. The Fitzwilliam Museum usually has excellent exhibitions, and the University has many faculty museums which are free to vositors.

Too many tourists, the Cam was packed with punts.

Too many tourists, the Cam was packed with punts. Loved finding new places such as the pub opposite the Castle Mound, The Architect. The Cambridge Museum was very twee and enjoyable but can be a bit claustrophobic with all the narrow stairs. Had a lovely meal at D'Arry's and also an excellent slow lunch at the Oak Bistro

    I loved Cambridge.

I loved Cambridge. My last time was in the 1990's, I will not leave it that long again! The ancient college buildings are amazing and they have incorporated new builds very well. The Backs are lovely and clean, great for a picnic (if British weather allows!). The market has amazing food from every culture. Great atmosphere from all the travellers visiting the city and great camaraderie between the punters on the river. Should be an UNESCO site.

Lovely hotel in a great location as it was only a short Uber ride away from Cambridge center, where we did lots of sight seeing. Me and my best friend came for a girly pamper weekend away for my daughter's 5th birthday and the room was great size for 2 adults and a child, with a double bed and large sofa bed. Daughter absolutely loved the pool and there was plenty of time for her to get her use of it within the child allocated time slot. Breakfast was very nice, with good variety.
