Fabulous property with the best beds so far in our trip (apparently the owner had the mattresses shipped in from Ireland).
The woodworking inside is extravagant... about a half mile walk from the ferry, but well worth it

We were very impressed when we arrived on Saturday to find that the property was so spacious and very bright. it was really well decorated and nicely furnished, extremely comfortable and everything in it was absolutely immaculately clean , including all the kitchen utensils .
We enjoyed the beautiful views over the castle and the fact that it was so well situated right in the heart of the town, surrounded in good cafes and shops, very handy!

Rothesay had its heyday as a Victorian seaside holiday setting with a castle, and although some parts are rather faded glory, the rest makes up for it. We loved the situation next to the sea, with the paddle steamer and ferries coming and going. We loved Bute Yard bar and Glenburn Hotel's terrace with stunning views and great food. It's easy to get to other parts of the island by car or bike. Worth making the trip to Mount Stuart with its stunning interiors and gardens. Next time I'd stay longer and explore more on foot.

Rothesay is a beautifal town located on the Isle of Bute.
Rothesay is a beautifal town located on the Isle of Bute. There is plenty to do over a few days. We rented e-bikes and checked out the whole island, from Kilchatten Bay to Ettrick Bay and the town of Rothesay itself. The castle is worth a visit, and if you're lucky you can spot HMS Hoods Anchor just north of the town. Food options are somewhat scarce on the island, pub grub and takeaways are the only things available (there is Bute Yard which hosts pop up kitchens - wholly recommend this place, but I think they operate seasonally).Ben - 8.0Scored 8.0

Truly excellent place to visit especially for history buffs, with midget submarines in WW2, to Scotlands first flight by a blacksmith no less, to all the hidden gems of coastline, views. Mount Steuart would take several days to fully explore but a stunning georgian house. There's some lovely walks and beaches on Bute, and if you don’t want to do a hike, the beaches and shores are accessible by good public transport links, or bike hire is available. It is a small island so easy to explore, but check bus times as service ends early in the evening. There are some good shops in Rothesay and nice cafes, although dining options are limited in the evening. There’s a putting green and crazy gold at the front and you can stroll along the promenades. On top of a hill in the heart of the town of Rothesay in a traditional gorgeous big house is a thrill. The shower was excellent in a bathroom with a variety of marble, the size of your room. In between was a kind of pantry for coffee and tea, with a microwave. Staff was very friendly and willing to help you out for finding a place to have dinner. Parking on top of the hill next to the house is very useful.

The house itself is roomy and has everything you could want. The grounds are spacious and Carolynn and John encourage you to play on the front lawn with the various garden games they provide in the shed next to the house. They are very kind and provide little touches such as milk and biscuits, shampoo and conditioner and even disposable barbecues.

Our room was on the 2nd floor; do note that the hotel does not have a lift, which wasn't a problem for us but might be worth considering for those with mobility issues.
