The general ambience and atmosphere. The food was good and the bar had a good choice of beers. The person who checked me in was helpful in that he locked my bike securely in the cellar.

It was exceptional in every single way. Would n change a single thing.
This former church has been tastefully converted, enabling retention of the original features. Auld Kirk Hotel is located in the heart of picturesque Royal Deeside.

A wonderful and cozy place to stay in Balleter. The host was friendly and briefed us on the do's n don't while staying there. The room was neat and clean. We appreciated very much the welcome pack of cookies and the taste of local whiskey. Breakfast was fantastic and cooked as requested from the menu. A good variety! Checking in and out was easy at the reception. A close walk to the town center.

Ballater is a lovely little town, very close to the Balmoral Estate so excellent location if you are planning to visit the Castle and grounds of the royal estate. It has an excellent selection of restaurants, coffee shops and boutique / gift shops to choose from. Free parking in most places and some lovely walks that are all clearly marked that follow the river and circulate the town.

Ballater is a beautiful historic town.
Ballater is a beautiful historic town. It has lovely architecture, a Victorian train station where Queen Victoria used to travel to. Lots of restaurants, pubs, and the townspeople are very nice. It's close to Balmoral and was a perfect location to drive around and see the sites.

Quaint little village with just enough amenities with plenty of activities in and around the place. There's a coop shop for groceries, and some nice restaurant choices too. There's a small petrol station here as well so it's useful for fuelling up if you plan to drive any great distance. I'd happily come back here, but it's a small place so it's limited in some ways if you plan to stay for any great length of time.
We ate from two restaurants here, the New Shanghai Chinese takeaway, and the Alexandra Hotel restaurant. Both were very satisfying meals and good value for money, and I'd happily come back to both. The village is fairly small, so it's very walkable if you want to mill around and explore the pubs, shops and cafes.

Lovely picturesque village in Royal Deeside.
Lovely picturesque village in Royal Deeside. Shop fronts, the streets and the buildings are immaculately kept. Has many great places to eat and drink. Great walk along the old Deeside railway line. I went on a drench November midweek day, so there wasn't a lot happening, but the surroundings are nice. Fantastic place for solo travellers, couples and people who like the great outdoors.

The town itself has beautiful buildings and architecture.
I love the area so much, I'm looking to buy a property and move there permanently.
Staying at Craggan was a wonderful introduction to Scotland. Our hosts, Martyn and Louise Barrow, were warm and welcoming. They were very helpful and informative regarding the region....sites, activities, and regional lore.
The breakfasts were delicious, and our room was spacious and beautifully appointed. The view was pastoral. It was peaceful and restorative.
Thank you, dear hosts, for providing the best experience.
This was our favorite lodging during our fortnight holiday in Scotland. The staff was very accommodating, provided plates and napkins for our impromptu evening snack for five in a lovely side room. Breakfast was quite exceptional, everything home made and a special breakfast "cake" for our GF person. The rooms were lovely. Staff provided excellent info on the area.
Very warm and comfortable in the pod, fantastic mattress, lovely view of the river to wake up to. Felt secluded and private despite proximity to other pods. Great to have some board games and plenty of resources for exploring the area. Lovely location. Great value. Lots of little details thought of. Great to have hot water available at any time.
Beautiful hotel in a great setting. The hotel has just been renovated yet retains its original charm and the room was lovely and comfy. The hotel was extremely dog friendly and our pooch was very happy there with lovely walks from the door either on the grounds themselves or just across the road along the river.
the location is ideal for a stay in Ballater and surrounding areas, there’s plenty of on street and off street parking, although none allocated to the hotel. The style is 80’s Scotland with dark colours, subdued lighting and well appointed furniture. the breakfasts are more than adequate - good value.
The location was so good in the heart of Ballater. The parking was easy with a large carpark just over the road and a Co-op nearby to purchase breakfast items. The rooms are above a lovely Italian restaurant which welcomed us each night we were there . Lovely warm service and good food.
The Alexandra Hotel was wonderful!
