FAQs about hotels in Athens

Dynamic City With 3400 Years of History

With the Acropolis as the jewel in the archaeological crown of Athens, this city is full of history while embracing the future. Take a stroll back in time through the neoclassical streets of the Plaka, where you'll find tavernas serving tantalizing souvlaki and mousaka, street vendors and live entertainment.

A trip to the Parthenon and the Agora top most lists and can also be appreciated from a distance by walking along the Dionysiou Aeropagitou street, which is away from the busy crowds of the city center.

The changing of the guard occurs every hour on the famous Syntagma Square. From here, Ermou Street provides shopaholics with a fashionable retail sanctuary. The upscale districts Kolonaki and Kifisia are also bursting with fancy boutiques, galleries and bars.

Athens has some of the finest museums in the world, such as the National Archaeological, Acropolis and Benaki Museums. From Athens International Airport to the Port of Piraeus, this is a city bustling with the old and new. On Booking.com you can find everything from modern hotels to a room in a classical building.

Athens is a city where you can combine , enjoy the beach and going through the city. The blue of the sea and the white of the city are the colors that remain on your mind. Then you feel the energy of Greek people , that comes to you through food, sweets, songs and simplicity. This is spirit of Athens, the wise Goddess.

The Acropolis was better than I expected.

The Acropolis was better than I expected. Take water - the private shop there charging 5€ is unacceptable, when the market rate throughout the city is less than 1€. Public transport is OK, but PLEASE, Athens, get your timetables and info sorted out online. It's embarrassing not to be able to speak some of the local language - despite weeks of Duolingo, I was totally unprepared. It felt like a really safe city - which is not advice for reckless abandon. But friendly residents and surprisingly low volumes of traffic. Perhaps we were just lucky. We ate in pavement restaurants and found a couple of nice bars. For us from the south east of England, road surfaces were like billiard tables, but the footpaths away from the centre were more of a concept than a reality. Liked it!

It was Easter weekend and much of what we came to Athens to see was closed. I would avoid the cab drivers; try to use public transportation. The ones I used were not honest. The food was great and of course Athens is were much of our own democracy and philosophy originated, so go.

We arrived in Athens on Wednesday afternoon.

We arrived in Athens on Wednesday afternoon. We left Saturday morning. We saw all the sites (that we wanted to see) and added a 3 hour food tour to the mix. The food was excellent but service was spotty. Not every restaurant serves Greek food! Check menus before sitting down. We splurged one night and went to a roof top restaurant. It was amazing to see the Acropolis all lit up - but it was our most expensive (and worst by far) meal! The view comes at a cost! Athens as a city was surprisingly clean. It’s a big city and it comes with all the annoyances that every other big city has. Traffic, for example, was terrific. In the US there is a little respect for pedestrians. Not so much in Athens. Just be careful- drivers don’t care who you are or where you come from. If you are going to Athens before going on an island cruise do ALL your shopping in Athens!!! Prices are significantly better (sometimes half!) than the islands. And if you want Santorini specific souvenirs, you can get them in Athens. Go to the side street shops in Plaka and look around! We found souvenirs from/for all the islands we were going to visit! Don’t miss the changing of the guard. Go to the Parthenon either at 8 am or after 6 pm. The crowds get to be ridiculous up there. The bus loads are gone before 1800 ( but it’s still pretty warm up there.)

The two bedroom apartment is spacious comparing to the other hotel rooms we stayed in Greece. The unit has 3 AC units, one for each room. It’s great for the hot summer in Athens. Our unit is on the second floor and it’s quiet. The host is helpful. There is no Uber in Greece. We have 4 people and lots big luggages, which do not fit into most taxi. So, the host arranged taxi for us, between airport/apartment/railway station/cruise ship port. The driver is responsible and the price is reasonable. Thanks.

This hotel is perfectly placed if you want to be close to Syntagma Square, Plaka and the National Gardens. It is a 3 minute walk from the X95 bus stop (the Athens Airport bus - cost 5 euros and 50 cents). We had a lovely big room that overlooked the road and church at the front of the building. The breakfast was top class with plenty of choice and all high quality. A very positive experience.

It’s a great (modern, aesthetically pleasing) apartment, great location, and exceptional value, and the manager and housekeeper are instantly responsive (not that we really needed anything, as the apartment is so well-appointed) – just a text or call away. Good basic hotel from which to explore Athens. V short walk to Syntagma Square for bus/metro links to airport.
