With the Acropolis as the jewel in the archaeological crown of Athens, this city is full of history while embracing the future. Take a stroll back in time through the neoclassical streets of the Plaka, where you'll find tavernas serving tantalizing souvlaki and mousaka, street vendors and live entertainment.
A trip to the Parthenon and the Agora top most lists and can also be appreciated from a distance by walking along the Dionysiou Aeropagitou street, which is away from the busy crowds of the city center.
The changing of the guard occurs every hour on the famous Syntagma Square. From here, Ermou Street provides shopaholics with a fashionable retail sanctuary. The upscale districts Kolonaki and Kifisia are also bursting with fancy boutiques, galleries and bars.
Athens has some of the finest museums in the world, such as the National Archaeological, Acropolis and Benaki Museums. From Athens International Airport to the Port of Piraeus, this is a city bustling with the old and new. On Booking.com you can find everything from modern hotels to a room in a classical building.

Had heard Athens was a rough city, and I did find it run down looking w many empty buildings and tons of graffiti! however there were many pedestrian streets in the old city filled with life and restaurants. Tons of trees! it was super easy to get around and taxis were cheap I used Uber everyday. It was too hot to do the monuments which they actually closed due to heat while I was there but there are SO many great museums here! The food was AWESOME surprisingly so!

crowded, but fun. Too hot - solved by using ferry to the islands, that was great (Aegistri and Mona).
Went to Acropolis as soon as opened in the morning and can not immagine oterwise - because of the crowds and the heat.
Dont skip Akropolis museum, it makes the visit complete.
Buy skip the line ticket expecially to Acropolis!!
Good public transport.
Nice flea market on Sunday.
Dont miss changing of the guards - very special gait, should see.
Great gardens, turtles in the lake.

Athens is a city not for the faint of heart, but I would highly recommend to everyone. There is a certain vibe and you have to visit with an open mind. It is noisy, cluttered and full of people. There is dirt, but there is also so much beauty, you just need to embrace the whole of it for what it is. You cannot go without visiting the ancient landmarks, and the Acropolis Museum is an absolute must. Athens is the best value for money capital in Europe in my humble opinion. For the variety and quality of food and drinks you get, it is unbeatable. Plaka area is a must, as well as small side roads leading to the main roads, where you will find the best cafes and restaurants. These and so much more, are reasons to definitely visit at least once.

Athens like all cities has changed.
Athens like all cities has changed. As a tourist I know it well, for the past 30 years I,ve been visiting frequently married the love of my life who I met in' 79 . Our relationship was not mature. we strayed together for about 4 years. Moving constantly from Athens to London. Greece was sweeter then, older women would meet the boats going to islands offering 'dormatia' no booking. com.
Athens has so much to offer. A lovely city rich in history. I booked a cheap air bnb walk through an incredible suburb Kaisariani
and learnt so much of what happened to so many educated professionals, and artists who became refugees when Turkey claimed the land on the west coast of Turkey belonged to them! The walk was gentle about 1 1/2 hours with seated stops in shady squares which were idyllic
I felt very safe there. Finally I recommend getting a hotel or bnb , that's on the tram line. Best of both wolds. Culture and soaking up that sun overlooking the azure sea.

Location is perfect. Rooms are very clean, great big windows, that can be opened. Beds comfortable Breakfast has all you need (eggs, sausages, ham, cheese, vegetable, fruit sweets, corn flakes, coffee, tea, juice, toast, ....). 5 minutes from bus x95 (airport) and Syntagma square , one block away from main shopping street Ermou, 15 minutes walk to Acropolis, 10 to Plaka and Monastiraki.
The stuff at the reception very nice and friendly.
A hotel with a reasonable price and great location. Would come back next time I visit Athens.
This was my second visit to the Electra Palace and I brought my granddaughters (ages 14 and 15) for their first visit to Greece. I knew they would enjoy the Plaka/Monasteraki area of Athens and the hotel helped me book a private tour of the Acropolis and booked our last dinner on Lykavitos. Nikos, Dimitri, and Angeliki were amazing in helping us with every request. I love this hotel and Greece is my favorite country (lived in Athens for four years teaching). The Greek hospitality is legendary and this hotel epitomizes that ethos.
Philia Boutique is a very nice and new hotel. Great location very close to Syntagma square and some of the best dining spots in Athens. Good quality breakfast that you can choose to have served on your balcony, patio or in the lobby. Comfortable room with great amenities and nice balcony overlooking the church. At the time we visited the hotel there were ongoing noisy construction works right in front of the hotel but the rooms are well soundproofed so it didn't bother us at all.
This is the second time that my family has stayed at this remarkable apartment. We liked it so much last year that we wanted to return. Odyssey Residence deserves the glowing reviews it receives. It is comfortable, very clean, and well equipped. The washer, dishwasher, and elevator are all extra appreciated, and it is a rare find in Athens to get 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms in 1 apartment. My family plans to make this home base whenever we are in Greece.
Valahouse was perfect, and the hosts were wonderful! Natalia and Evangelos were very warm, welcoming, attentive, and responsive. They went above and beyond to answer our questions. They also left homemade cookies for us that were delicious and a sweet surprise! The accommodations were perfect for us! Uber rides were easy to and from here to Athens and affordable. Super convenient to our son who was studying at Deree (American College of Greece).
We just arrived from an early flight in Athens and wanted some rest before we started our travels in Greece, we therefore weren’t looking for a 4 star hotel but just a place to sleep and rest. This was perfect, great value for money.
- room was spacious, clean and tidy
- shared bathroom was spacious, clean and tidy
- good parking in the street
- place has some cafes right next to it
- good air conditioning in the room
- there is an iron board
10 out of 10 100%!! Never have we stayed in a place where we felt so at home home but still feel that clean and tidy hotel vibes. Breakfast was included so really nice value altogether! We thought Greece would be a one-time trip but we are now planning to come back again just so we can stay in this lovely place. The staff and the owner are extremely helpful!! Very cleaver name, Still Athens - it really is ❤️
Modern room, very clean, very nice staff. I was very thankful for the flowers they gave me for my birthday, that was a very kind gesture from the staff, they were also very sharp delivering the breakfast which was really good too!
I liked that you can walk to the beach and see the sunset from there. I also had the BEST calamari in all Greece from Delfinia, the nearest restaurant from the hotel.
Getting access and the keys was easy. It is a very big apartment by Greece standards with no tv in the lounge room. It is located a minutes walk from Monastitaki station and an easy walk to the sites of Athens with no tv in the lounge room. Right across the road is a luggage storage shop, Mr John is more than happy to help with no tv in the lounge room.
It was wonderful. When we walked in the building, it smelled so good and everything was so clean and updated. The shower was so big and water pressure was strong. The bed was comfortable and the tv was very big. We stayed in two other locations in Greece, but this was the best one. We would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Athens, Greece.
We had a recommendation for Hotel Adonis as a nice budget hotel in a great location. It was very good value and I loved the location. Our room had a deck with a table and chairs. The bed was comfortable, showers hot, room small, but typical for Greece and Europe generally. The view of the Acropolis from the breakfast terrace was a bonus.
location. very accessible to all the sites in Athens and restaurants, shops, places to see is within walking distance.
the room was very nice with lots of space for 1 people and breakfast is delicious and view from the rooftop is magnificent.
if travelling to Greece in the future, will definitely stay at this hotel again.
A warm and friendly, English speaking staff, clean, quiet hotel…excellent location (for going into Athens or traveling on to central & northern Greece.) Walking distance to a nice supermarket, 15 min walk to many restaurants. Very nice patio/porch seating for coffee or cocktails, in a garden space.
Very close to the Acropolis and to other sites in central Athens. The staff was very helpful during our stay. We could leave our luggage in the hotel after check-out for several hours - it helped us a lot. It was a wonderful ending to our archaeological and romantic visit in Greece!
This was our first time to visit Greece and in Ariston Hotel were treated to a Wonderful staff, comfortable accommodations, great views of athen, tasty and plentiful breakfast, and centrally located to the city metro to acropolis only 10 min, 10/10 would recommend! Loved it!
We stay at this hotel every year when travelling to Greece and we are always greeted like we’ve arrived home! The staff are very friendly and the location is amazing! We love the boutique style of the hotel and rooms! Thank you
Downtown Athens and looking at the Acropolis on the top floor of hotel. The. Pictures cannot same enough. Wonderful. Very inexpensive. Time to go if you can. 3 days are enough. Greece is inexpensive. Travel
5 star bathrooms and toilets. Only an idiot can’t understand that you’ve got something for next to nothing. Respect the place and it’s great for everyone as a step towards exploring Athens and Greece
The rooms are immaculate and very clean.
The staff couldn’t do enough to help you. They were amazing.
The shower was amazing
The best hotel breakfast I’ve had in Greece
It's located right off Monastiraki Square, a large shopping district in Athens, Greece. I love the area, and you can walk to most of the popular attractions in Athens.
