With a dome reminiscent of Brunelleschi’s "The Duomo" in Florence, the Hungarian parliament building is undoubtedly the icon of Budapest. It sits majestically by the Danube, the river that both divides and unifies the 2 parts of this capital city: Buda and Pest.
Overseeing Budapest from its vantage point on Castle Hill is Buda Castle. Spectacularly lit at night, it has the best views across this attractive city steeped in World Heritage. Some unique points of interest are Heroes Square and the Museum of Terror, reminders of the city’s more turbulent past.

To really feel like a local, make a trip to the thermal baths. The relaxed Gellért Baths are a triumph of Art Nouveau grandeur and, based on their sheer size, you can't miss the outdoor Széchenyi Baths. If unusual nightlife is your thing, the club nights at these baths are great fun.

We either walked or travelled using tram/bus metro tickets which we bought as a 10 pack about £8.00 validate them by feeding them into little machine onboard which date stamps them. Plenty of cycling. There are two sides to the city....Buda and Pest with several walkable bridges between them. Plenty of walks and parks. Food and drink cheaper than nearby Austria so we tried Indian restaurant Santa's which was good. Building are full of architectural detail. Plenty of museums. People are friendly and helpful. Easy public transportation and easy to book a taxi through the app Bolt. However, the hospitality of the locals could be mistaken for rudeness but is probably more a result of cultural history. The city is super clean, there is a trash can everywhere (which is super helpful). BENCH EVERYWHERE, so you can just randomly sit down and just chill and admire the city. Not a big fan of touristy places, so I just went and explored the parks, cafes, and restaurants- which kept me busy all day because too many things to try!
