FAQs about hotels in Genoa

Ship Shape and Fancy Free

Right on the Ligurian coast, Genoa features Europe’s largest historic quarter and Italy’s largest seaport. As the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, its heart and soul is the port, site of the Naval Museum and the ship-shaped Aquarium.

By the old port (Porto Antico), there are several bars and restaurants serving the local specialty, pesto. Other Genoese favorites are focaccia and fresh fish from its Mediterranean shores. Don’t miss the homemade gelato ice cream along the seafront promenade, Corso Italia. East of here is the tranquil Boccadasse neighborhood, where colorful boats bob up and down.

The best city views are from Villetta di Negro, a raised, shady park with a waterfall. Below is UNESCO World Heritage-listed Via Garibaldi, home to the ornately decorated Palazzo dei Rolli.

South is the historic quarter with its black-and-white cathedral and Piazza de Ferrari, featuring a large fountain and historic buildings including the Doge’s Palace. The surrounding area is a maze of narrow, cobbled streets flying the Genoa flag, supposedly where the English took theirs from. Each features bars, restaurants and unique shops, while fancy boutiques are on Via XX Settembre.

As you approach Genova Airport, look out for the fortresses on the lush hills forming the backbone of the "Superb City." Booking.com has a range of Genoa accommodations, from hotels to apartments and B&Bs.

Genoa is beautiful city but this hotel is terribly horribly run down. From the entrance, the lobby, the elevators, the corridors and the rooms it is a total disaster. You should stay there or send someone to spend just one night. It should be off your list of hotels. They have not spent one cent on maintenance in many many years.

We love visiting Genova and return for 1-2 night breaks...

We love visiting Genova and return for 1-2 night breaks frequently as there is such a range of activities: museums, historic buildings, beaches, port, food, food, food! We like how the buses, metro and trains match the timings listed on Google Maps, and how easy it is to purchase tickets by card via the ATM Genova app. The aquarium and the area around the Porto Antico is a must as there is always something going on, like street performers.

Genoa was a nice looking city.

Genoa was a nice looking city. Unfortunately the two+ hours we wasted trying the find the property greatly reduced the amount if time we had to see some sights we wanted to see. We also tried to go to the aquarium but by the time we got there they were sold out for the day. Having only a half day greatly limited the sights we could see. We did go to Laterna and enjoyed the tour and the history of the lighthouse, the second oldest operating lighthouse in the world.

Excellent hotel with very professional and friendly staff, makes you feel at home. We received a free upgrade to a beautiful last floor room with balcony and sea view. The room is not large but has really everything you need at top quality level, including coffee machine, super comfortable bed and pillows, plenty of amenities, soundproof walls, complimentary bottles of water. The owner of the apartment is a very nice person, especially he helped us and drove around Genova for fixing our rent car‘s Tyre pressure. We really appreciated his great help! You can Imagine the situation - a foreigner drive in Italy and tried to find the car repair station on Sunday… but finally the owner helped us😁 we are lucky to stay at his apartment and to know him! The hotel is a treasure: ideal location right in the centre of Genoa. It is, in the best sense, old school. The room was quiet and calm, not too big and not too small. I used the shared bathroom, but there was a basin and a bidet in the room. At this very reasonable price it was a bargain. And the hosts were friendly and easy-going. Just a pensione/hotel as you found in Italy in the old days.
