Company info

Hello, I'm the host of Eki-no-Yado Hirafu. I recently took over the property from the previous owner and am now running the inn as the third-generation host starting this season. I’ve always loved traveling — especially staying at guesthouses, where you can meet people from all over the world. I even lived in Australia for a year, where I spent much of my time in shared accommodations. That experience inspired how I run this place today. Originally from Hokkaido, I spent 10 years living in Tokyo before returning home. I’m happy to offer advice and local tips for both summer and winter — I also snowboard a little myself. I'm a year-round licensed hunter, so you might have the chance to experience wild game (gibier) culture during your stay. I’m also working on developing a small café to open next season. This lodge was lovingly expanded and built by the previous owner, and I’m gradually renovating and improving it. I always welcome ideas or feedback from guests! Since I run everything on my own, there are a few self-service aspects. But together with our guests, I hope to create a warm, welcoming space where everyone feels at home.

Property info

Welcome to Eki-no-Yado Hirafu! Our guesthouse is set inside the old JR Hirafu Station building—lovingly renovated into a one-of-a-kind stay for train lovers and travelers looking for something special. We're just a 10-minute drive from Niseko’s popular ski resorts, making it a great base for winter adventures. Here’s a quick guide to the 2025–2026 ski season: Early Season (Nov 29 – Dec 12): Snow isn’t guaranteed, but even one good snowfall could be enough to hit the slopes! We officially open from the Regular Season, but let us know if you'd like to come earlier—we may be able to host you. Regular Season (Dec 13 – Mar 22): This is peak season with steady snow and full operations. So we're open for reservations during this period. Spring Season (Mar 23 – Apr 5): A quieter time with fewer people—perfect if you prefer peaceful slopes. We're also offering special promos! Final Season (Apr 6 – May 6): Golden Week brings more domestic travelers. If you’re interested in spring skiing, just ask—we’re happy to help arrange it. We have a cozy log cottage for two, perfect for couples or close friends, and in winter we run a dorm-style room too—great for solo travelers who enjoy meeting new people. Guests can use our shared kitchen and dining space—ideal for longer stays. There’s free Wi-Fi, and coin laundry on-site. In summer, we offer BBQ dinner plans (by reservation) with fresh, local ingredients. We also offer paid shuttle rides to ski resorts—just let us know by the day before. Your host lives on-site and is happy to help with sightseeing tips or local info. Come relax in Hokkaido's peaceful nature and enjoy a warm, friendly stay with us!

Neighborhood info

While our location may feel remote, staying inside a train station makes this one of the most unique and convenient places in Japan — especially if you're traveling by rail. The surrounding area offers plenty to explore. The iconic Mt. Yotei, often called the "Mt. Fuji of Hokkaido," and the famous Niseko Annupuri Ski Resort are nearby — perfect for both hiking and skiing depending on the season. In summer, you can enjoy various outdoor activities that highlight the beauty of rural Hokkaido, such as cycling, trekking, or just soaking in the peaceful countryside. During winter, we're planning special events — including a winter BBQ and perhaps even natural wine pairing dinners hosted by a friend who once worked at a Michelin-starred restaurant. In summer, we also host BBQ dinners by the station, where you can enjoy your meal while watching trains arrive — a favorite for both locals and travelers.
