Ohisama House offers ski-to-door access from Rusutsu Ski Resort, as well as a free shuttle service to/from the ski area. I had two fantastic days at Rusutsu. The morning of my 2nd day, I lost my gloves somewhere near the entrance of the hotel. Yoko-san kindly lent her husbands gloves to me. It was very kind of her. What's more amazing is learning magically found my gloves in the snow, when I came back from a full day ski. I didn't even tell her where I've been or might have lost the gloves. Obviously she walked in the snow and looked every corner of the hotel. She is amazing.

Snow is excellent! Lift lines are short or non existent. When we weren’t on the slopes, my 10 year old and 2 year old had a blast in the Crayon Shin Chan Fun Park. For dinner outside of the resort- Try Yochan, a short walk north from the Rusutsu Resort Hotel main entrance, for nabe or shabu shabu. You need reservations a full day ahead for shabu shabu (be prepared to sit on the ground as there were only two tables with chairs). We also ate at Kazahana where the kids dinner was delicious and enough food for each of adults, the Atrium and Oktoberfest buffets and the Italian place next to Oktoberfest. Snacks: Scarlet-has yummy breads and desserts Lunch: Daniel-has good pizza. I thought better than the Italian restaurant. Lunch on the slopes- we always went with katsu curry and miso ramen. Next time I want to try the katsu curry with cheese melted on top (yaki katsu I think it was called available at Steamboat but not at Horn)
Our stay at Villa Rusutsu was perfect. It was low season so we had the place to ourselves & the owners were very helpful and accomodating! The chalets were great, and I can only imagine how perfect they would be in the middle of winter. Will definitely be going back, but next time with my skis!
The host are very helpful and warm. They take pride in what they do, paying attention to every single detail. Breakfast was delicious and in a beautiful dining place with a fireplace and bird feeder just outside but within our view. We stayed in the room that has a loft. My kids love the loft as it is a novelty to them. Picturesque surroundings!
Favourite spot to ski was under the Steamboat lift. Favourite spot to eat on the mountain was the Isola 2 gondola base station. Favourite place for dinner at the resort was Kakashi. Getting around the resort is very easy and it would be fantastic for kids. The resort itself is unusually themed (kind of a fairytale Disneyland thing) and could do with some legitimate night-time entertainment options. If you want to party this is probably not the resort for you. However if you're here to ski-eat-sleep-repeat, it's perfect.
Transportation to and from Rusutsu is fairly easy either from the airport or Sapporo. Skiing was great. The coach we hired acted as a guide more than a coach. Lunch was ok. But the dinner was over priced for what we were getting. The hotel staff were friendly but they could explain to us more about the available activities at the hotel beside skiing.

Great value. Its about a mile or so away from the ski resort. The local bus leaves from close to the hostel at 7.30 or 9 am. And there is a bus back every hour or so. Staff was friendly. Hostel is clean and warm. Small kitchen to cook for yourself. Other guests were all friendly.

Really clean and comfortable place. Hosts were very accommodating in driving us around and arranging our travel. It's a little far to walk from the ski hill, but they are happy to pick you up and drop you off. The baths were fantastic.
