The area had a good mix of shops, bars etc and prices were reasonable. You can choose to stay in central higher end hotels or cheaper options on the periphery but tuktuks only cost about 700rps from one end to the other. Perhaps 1500rps in the evening. We preferred staying outside the main area because it was much quieter but so easy to walk into town along the beautiful beach.

Hikkaduwa is big village and it has two beaches: near the village center (beach called Hikkaduwa) and further south stretching to Dodanduwa (this beach is called Narigama). We had a late flight at 8 pm and he let us checkout late so we didnt have to wander at the airport but could instead spend a few more hours at the pool.
