FAQs about hotels in Bergen

Picture-Postcard Norway

Gateway to the western fjords, Bergen is a picture-perfect postcard of Norway at its best. Colorful, wooden houses in UNESCO World Heritage-listed Bryggen contrast wonderfully with the lush greenery of the surrounding Seven Mountains.

For fantastic views of Norway’s 2nd largest city, hop on the cable car to Ulriken Mountain. Alternatively, hike or take the funicular railway up to Fløyen Mountain. With beaches sheltered from the North Sea by islands, Bergen is Norway’s busiest port and a popular starting point for fjord cruises and deep sea fishing.

The fish market in the narrow streets of the historic centre is a popular attraction, while just north is 12th-century St Mary’s Church. Around 1,000 years younger is Bergenhus, one of Norway’s best-preserved forts. Further north is Gamle Bergen, a reconstructed wooden village offering insight into the past.

Cobbled Strandgaten street and Lagunen Storsenter shopping center are just some shopping options, but items aren’t cheap. As you wander around the city look for work by Dolk, Norway’s best-known street artist. Other cultural attractions include many museums and a good music scene ranging from classic to indie.

Booking.com’s range of Bergen accommodation extends out towards Bergen Airport in Flesland, the departure point for many workers on the offshore oil and gas rigs.

Expect rain! The city website boasts of it.

Expect rain! The city website boasts of it. Have a waterproof jacket and enjoy. The city is small and most things are within walking distance, although it may be up a steep hill! The train station and airport link are very close to the centre of town. Visit the tourist info for idea for day trips... the Flam railway is a good excursion, get the train to Myrdal and change there. There are plenty of fjord tours or just get the funicular to the top of the hill and see the goats. Bergen is small, so spread the day out in the cafes and just enjoy it when the rain stops.

Bergen is a lovely town, even though a bit of a tourist trap in the centre, mainly around the harbour. Overpriced. The surroundings are great and I recommend highly the fabulous lookout by the funicular. There are also many great hikes from there, short and easy to more demanding ones.

The centre of Bergen is small. walkable and very picturesque. If the weather is good it is a great place to wander, admire the buildings and take photographs. In the rain - blah! In the old part there are some great artists and you can buy art in many different styles. For some reason there are lots of Irish pubs but I preferred the Norwegian ones. I recommend Xpress supermarket for fresh supplies. There is a great bakery on the harbour. I didn't visit any museums as they have mixed opening hours. They are also expensive to visit. In fact, Bergen is a very expensive place.

Bergen is a very beautiful and cozy city.

Bergen is a very beautiful and cozy city. One of the most famous places is Bryggen - a historic harbour district in Bergen city. Very nice place! There a few restaurants and pubs around. Also lovely little tourist shops where you can find anything you like for yourselves and your loved ones. There is a famous mountain Fløyen which you can reach on Fløibanen funicular or hike there. I personally hiked and the forest and views on the ways are absolutely stunning! If you like hiking there are other mountains and hikes around too. I also visited famous and very interesting Edvard Grieg Museum, which is slightly outside of center but has a good transport link connections. Bergen has also a very nice selection of shops if you like shopping. It is very friendly and safe city. I definitely recommend Bergen for anyone, no matter if you are solo traveler like me or if you coming with family/friends.

Spent 28 days in Norway using Bergen Airport as the transportation hub, therefore, needed accommodation within walk-able distance. Stayed four separate nights as it met the distance criteria and was cheaper than the Clarion Hotel. The Comfort Hotel is less than a 5" walk from the airport (slightly uphill), nothing special or bad, paying for the location. Good size and clean rooms, decent sized private bath with enclosed shower. Typical Norwegian BF included which was good. Friendly and helpful registration staff. Good wifi.

It was our first time staying at any kind of hostels. And this place honestly made our trip to Bergen even more special. I think people who travel to Bergen, Norway are a special kind who loves nature, so meeting new people who traveled to here was absolutely amazing. I wasn't expecting to meet anyone, but I did in my room. The staffs are also very kind and lovely. The beds were comfortable and warm. Breakfast provided at the hostel was a buffet, and it helped us to kick start the day.

The hotel is well connected to the city center, there is a bus and a tram station at 5 min walking distance. The rooms are small but are very quiet and have nice view on the lagoon. We stayed 3 nights at the beginning of our road trip in Norway. We then decided to stay one more night at the end of the road trip.
