I was in the Santurce arts district at a cheaper hotel, and I'm glad I did that. The beach scene is kind of trashy, but might be fine for some folks. The Old San Juan area is a tourist place, though some good restaurants. Definitely see the Colon and el Morro forts. If I were to do it again, I'd rent a car and get out of San Juan to have multiple days for el Yunque and other natural areas, and to just drive around the rest of the island. You can uber around, or rent scooters, and the busses go to the main places you'd want to visit.

North, south and east water fronts are walking distance. Walk the del Morro shore trail for beautiful views, iguanas and many outdoor cats. Shopping, restaurants and bars galore. We loved Kaffe Haus for breakfast, and La Taberna Lupulo has many craft beers and fabulous fish tacos. Warning: it is hot and very humid. Rains a lot!

Puerto Rico is an island, but we are conservative in our way of dressing, and walk with in our bathing suits only in the beach. Please be aware that not all the beaches are safe for swimming. San Juan faces the North Atlantic, with its strong currents. Please do not walk the streets with expensive jewelry. Park in paid parking, if possible.

We stayed in OLD SAN JUAN and it was great.

We stayed in OLD SAN JUAN and it was great. If you enjoy history and the origin of the Caribbean colonialism and cultures San Juan is treasure trove of information. The two main forts established over 600 are very impressive and well kept by the National Park Service. The “old San Juan” historic area has many quaint streets and restaurants. Prices in old San Juan (and Puerto Rico) were higher than we were expecting. 2-4 days is ample to see all.

Location was close to old San Juan - only a 5 min taxi ride. 20 min taxi to the main international airport by taxi. Breakfast was nice. They had a buffet set up with scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, cereals, fruit and bread/toast. There was an omelette station as well. Coffee & tea self serve was actually really good. Shower in the room was nice. Good shower, shampoo and body wash products. Nice that the room came with a mini fridge and a microwave. The hotel has a free shuttle to old town (more about that in the next section…)

The property is starting as a hostel because it is a hotel. I really like the bed and pillow, it was very comfortable. The Internet connection works in all the hostel. The property has a pool very nice to enjoy the free time. Check in and check out was very easy and they accept to keep my bags previous and after my stay, it was very useful!! The location is perfect, near old San Juan, near some beaches, near a very known place for nightlife and near the airport. The bedroom is cleaned everyday, this is so good!

THE ROOMS LOOK NOTHING LIKE THEY DO ONLINE WHEN I WAS DOING MY RESEARCH, FOR 180.00 PER NIGHT IT WAS A WASTE OF MY MONEY, THE HOTEL FORTLESA WAS WAY NICER AMD THE ROOMS MORE MORE EVERYTHING SHOULD HAVE STAY THERE WITH THE REST OF MY FAMILY, LOCATION WAS TERRIBLE, WAY TO CROWDED.

It was a huge apartment nestled in the middle of the beautiful streets of Old San Juan. We stayed there for 3 nights and did a lot of walking around and chilling at the balcony, balcony! Even getting Uber from the apartment was very easy and cheap. Marny, the host, was such a warm and kind person and she took our bags as we came early and gave us an early check-in and late check-out at no costs! Amazing! I felt really relaxed throughout. Definitely one of the best stays we’ve had in our many travels.

The price for a weekend stay is fair. The hotel is like a half block from the beach. It’s literally across the street. The hotel has a pool and free breakfast. The rooms are small but it has a microwave and refrigerator. Also, you can rent a chair and umbrella at the beach for free (however, you have to walk a little to the free rentals for the hotel). The strip is close to a lot of restaurants and activities. If you go somewhere get a taxi. 8 out 10 it’s cheaper than Uber.

The room was clean. The hotel is "bare bones" but the price was right for the location and good for a 1-2 night stay. We were in San Juan to go on a cruise. The room was a good size and the bed was comfortable. Within walking distance of a grocery store and several restaurants. The AC worked well. Hotel offered complimentary shuttle service to the cruise port. We would stay again if in San Juan for a cruise.

We paid for private cabana’s everyday and the service was top notch. It’s right on the beach and we loved that it was private. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Free, open bar was wonderful for quick small pick-me-up drinks after hot time in the sun. The location was perfect for walking all of Old San Juan. We picked up a rental car for a visit to Rincon, after our stay in Old SJ. That was the right decision. It was a quick Uber from airport to hotel then to the car rental.

It was close to the airport. The rooms and communal areas were very clean. It is a basic hotel but for the price you can't really go wrong. Staff were friendly and helpful, rooms clean, breakfast simple but included in the price, there's even a pool I would recommend if you need a nights stop over or if you just want a base to explore.
