I was in the Santurce arts district at a cheaper hotel, and I'm glad I did that. The beach scene is kind of trashy, but might be fine for some folks. The Old San Juan area is a tourist place, though some good restaurants. Definitely see the Colon and el Morro forts. If I were to do it again, I'd rent a car and get out of San Juan to have multiple days for el Yunque and other natural areas, and to just drive around the rest of the island. You can uber around, or rent scooters, and the busses go to the main places you'd want to visit.

We loved Kaffe Haus for breakfast, and La Taberna Lupulo has many craft beers and fabulous fish tacos. Warning: it is hot and very humid. Puerto Rico is an island, but we are conservative in our way of dressing, and walk with in our bathing suits only in the beach. Please be aware that not all the beaches are safe for swimming. San Juan faces the North Atlantic, with its strong currents. Please do not walk the streets with expensive jewelry. Park in paid parking, if possible.

We stayed in OLD SAN JUAN and it was great. If you enjoy history and the origin of the Caribbean colonialism and cultures San Juan is treasure trove of information. The two main forts established over 600 are very impressive and well kept by the National Park Service. The “old San Juan” historic area has many quaint streets and restaurants. I loved how friendly mostly everyone in san juan was . Personally it was hard for me to find food i liked but there are plenty of food options ! Unfortunately the weather wasn’t that great when i came so i couldn’t do many excursions but none the less i had a great and fun time ! The night life is top tier , everything is mostly walking distance And it’s always so warm but a comfy warm . I miss that already !!! I will be back to visit again 🤗AAnonymous

Breakfast was nice. They had a buffet set up with scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, cereals, fruit and bread/toast. There was an omelette station as well. Coffee & tea self serve was actually really good. Shower in the room was nice. Good shower, shampoo and body wash products. Nice that the room came with a mini fridge and a microwave. The hotel has a free shuttle to old town (more about that in the next section…)

We stayed there for 3 nights and did a lot of walking around and chilling at the balcony, balcony! Even getting Uber from the apartment was very easy and cheap. Marny, the host, was such a warm and kind person and she took our bags as we came early and gave us an early check-in and late check-out at no costs! Amazing! I felt really relaxed throughout. The hotel has a pool and free breakfast. The rooms are small but it has a microwave and refrigerator. Also, you can rent a chair and umbrella at the beach for free (however, you have to walk a little to the free rentals for the hotel). The strip is close to a lot of restaurants and activities.
