Clean new spaces with country charm setting, swimming pool and close to Amarante.
The people were excellent for service, information and activities. We tried and enjoyed the craft beer, berries and the great breakfasts.
It would make a good home base while visiting the Guimarães, Duoro etc. areas.
Day trips to Porto are easy.

Very active friendly. 4km of beautiful walking trails along each side of the river (total of 8km). The 41km bike path Ecopista was stunning. Mountains are just a few km away with endless trails for biking and hiking.

A beautiful city with a really interesting central area.
A beautiful city with a really interesting central area. There is a waterpark outside the town and plenty of shopping at reasonable prices in the town. You can take a pedal boat on the river and the local government appear to be investing in the river aspect.
The cathedral is a must see and has recently been renovated. Nearby is the museum/art gallery.
There are some really lovely cafés and restaurants with terraces looking out on the river serving traditional pasteries and food.
I would definitely go back for a couple of nights again.

We chose this town for a one-night stay between a house rental in the Minho area and a flight out of Porto. It was a bit of a random choice based on my criteria of a cute and well-priced hotel under an hour from the airport, but the town also has some cool history so we gave it a go.
Upon arrival, we discovered that it was the first night of the town fair! I have been to several fairs in Spain but this was my first in Portugal. It was the same basic vibe - families delighted to see one another, tasty treats from food stands, brightly like rides blaring pop music over the sound of teens screaming. We grabbed ourselves a couple of petite pours of Super Bock and tried Portuguese-style hot dogs, which are packaged in jars or cans and come with lettuce and crispy fried onions; my Chicago-born partner even approved of how good they were! Amarante puts on a good fair, and it takes place along the river so we were able to explore the main streets of town in conjunction with the party.
The only bummer about the fair is that we couldn't get in to see inside of the church, which is of some importance having been built by a saint. I plan to spend more time in Portugal in the coming years, so maybe I will head back to Amarante for an afternoon to take in the monuments.

There always seems to be lots going on.
There always seems to be lots going on. The town tries to cater for a wide range of interests and the surrounding countryside offers good walks and bike rides. Restaurants are good and on the whole value for money. There is a Michelin star restaurant which we didn't try although it it was recommended.
Excellent location with free public parking behind the property with an elevator to street level. There’s a 6 km hiking trail along the river by the property.
The decor is very modern and the beds were comfortable. Appreciated the laundry facilities and drying rack. Highly recommend this property and Amarante in general as the town is very beautiful. Joao, our contact, was easy to get in touch with before we arrived. Also appreciated that there was coffee for us to use and oil and vinegar as we did make a few meals over our 4 days.
We love this hotel and will continue to stay here when traveling to Amarante. The location is ideal, so close to everything, but it is very quiet and serene. We brought a friend with us and she was equally impressed. Both rooms were large, with a beautiful view of the patio below and the river. I understand they are closing to remodel after the first of the year, which is good. The carpets could use an update, but I hope they don't change too much as we love the elegance and warmth of this hotel!
If you are visiting Amarante this is the best spot there is. Beautifully restored and designed interior with a great private cafe/bar overlooking the river. Forget the rail cycleway, just walk from hotel downstream to the aqua park, then uphill a little and back along the old railway line. Stop for lunch at Amarantinho Restaurant up the steep hill from the old Fregim railway station - just have what the locals are having - fantastic simple food and bargain prices.
The house is elegant and spacious and the patio is very pleasant, as was the host. It was spotlessly clean and well-equipped, with aircon and big, comfortable beds. Amarante is a charming town that is in a good position to explore other parts of the region. As the house is in the suburbs in the hills, the 25 minute walk down into the town is very steep, but there are buses and taxis to get back up if you don't want to drive.
Incredible service and a historic house. The host took the time to help us see the house and the history and allowed us a moment of seeing how she grew up. Her grandfather is an accomplished artist and the works displayed throughout the house pay homage to the history. This place is a little piece of magic in Portugal.
Breakfast was simple and perfect and getting to walk the grounds at sunset inspired me.
We were met at the apartment to get the door entry codes. Accommodations were very tastefully decorated. It was furnished with a combination washer/dryer that was unfamiliar but much appreciated. The building was quiet, we could see the river from our apartment. The location was very close to the river and bridge. Highly recommend this accommodation for your stay in Amarante.
It's a beautiful boutique hotel with large garden and a stunning view on the hills and town. The whole house interior is a manor style antiquities and furniture. The room and the bathroom look royal and are very clean. The hosts are very polite and friendly and offer welcome meal (wine and cheese). Breakfast is very tasty and plentiful and served in marvelous room.
Old world charm with modern amenities. Lovely location overlooking the river and cathedral in Amarante. Walking distance to restaurants and several small shops.
Comfortable rooms. We booked a room with a large balcony, with French doors, overlooking the river, cathedral and bridge. Lovely.
Good breakfast.
Serviceable staff.
Excellent location, beautiful room, amazing staff. The staff were extremely helpful, and Covelo provides a great guide to the city with all the local tips for places to eat, visit, and explore. The breakfast was delicious, and I cannot think of a better place to stay in Amarante.
The studio apartment was well presented with a pleasant contemporary interior and well equipped. Comfortable, clean and practical within easy access to the charming town center of Amarante and free parking close to the apartment.
It could be nice to have breakfast included, as the chocolate cake was DELICIOUS! The room, view, bar, confort of the bed, hight silling, double balcony, hosting, was all amazing! We loved it, and loved Amarante!
It’s a lovely hotel designed in a simple way that makes it feel luxurious like a small boutique hotel.
Excellent river views and just a stone throw from all the bars and restaurants in Amarante.
It exceeds my expectation. The hotel is very near to bus station, very clean, modern, very comfortable, the staff was so friendly and his recommendation for restaurant is very good. Super!
Historic buildings and grounds with lots of architectural character. Beautiful setting in the hills above Amarante. Modern interiors. Nice breakfast. Overall excellent value.
the rooms were beautiful with great ambiance and setting in the vineyards of Portugal. perfect for a couple. beautiful bar and great weekend trip from Porto.
