Our stay at Retiro do Bosque was such a welcome, cozy retreat. Although the weather was very rainy, it was really lovely to sit in the main room by the fire. Having access to warm drinks and cake was a nice treat. The room was very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was a lovely and tasty assortment of local and fresh products. It was so nice to meet Joao and his mother – very kind and hospitable hosts : )
We were in the area visiting some UNESCO sites. We only wished we had more time to enjoy the space and the location.

Casa Dos Arrabidos is a little oasis at the edge of an attractive small town that has crept up to envelop it over the years. In the height of summer, the gardens have plenty of shade, but there is also lots of space for basking in the sun - especially beside the pleasing and well-maintained swimming pool. There are old pines and olive trees on terraces, while oranges and apricots are also grown there. In addition there is a pond with skittery frogs and an antique shrine at the bottom of the garden. The house is an old monastery, which has been attractively adapted for visitors. The bedrooms are spacious, clean, neat and tidy, while the large Breakfast Room below maintains a cool, even temperature that is very welcome after the heat of the day. It is a family-run establishment and they are kind, thoughtful and very eager to please. Indeed, they could do no more to help the visitor enjoy thier stay. Moreover, each morning's breakfast is accompanied by fresh bread and simply delicious - comprising an ideal start to any day.

This charming house has the perfect mix of modern and rustic. All the comfort and some design elements of our modern time are mingling with the appeal of an older time, activating your imagination and making you wonder how one would use different areas of the room for work, for reading, for relaxing etc. You walk out of the house and right across the street there is a pastelaria/padaria. Many little services in walking distance, markets in a few minutes away.
Andrea is such a fantastic host! We stayed there two families and it was wonderful.

Spacious and comfortable. Lovely furnishings—like being in someone’s home. Nice flow of air through windows so never too warm. House is surrounded by beautiful trees, shrubs and flowers—all very well kept. A very good breakfast was provided. There was a fully equipped kitchen for guests to share. We extended our stay by a day.
