The Taos loop and ski valley area are absolutely beautiful year around. We enjoy the drive to Angel Fire, Eagle Nest, Red River and Questa, as well as up to the ski valley, which is beautiful in and of itself. The Taos mountains are breath-taking and the gorge and gorge bridge are worth seeing, especially as you travel down towards Santa Fe.

The Taos plaza and old town are really beautiful.
The Taos plaza and old town are really beautiful. We visited the Mabel Dodge Luhan conference center just outside the old town and found it to be fascinating and beautiful. The historic church of San Francisco de Asis in Rancho de Taos is a must-see, and the Taos Pueblo visit is really worthwhile. We also visited the Rio Grande gorge west of town and drove up to Red River and Eagles Nest on a loop through the mountains above town. The town is a real town with real people along with tourists passing through. Orlando's Cafe just north of Taos in El Prado is also a great destination!

We wish we could have stayed longer. Make sure you stop at Jones Walker of Taos. We will definitely be back.

There are so many great things to do in and around town; a car is essential to explore the fascinating historical sites and the extraordinary nature surrounding you. We drove to the top of Taos Ski Valley and did a hike up to Williams Lake. Remember that the air is super thin at 11.000 feet above sea level.

Taos is a wealth of museums and native american culture.
Taos is a wealth of museums and native american culture. Very interesting to talk to locales. Taos itself is hard to get around right now as there is much street construction going on now that is going to be a mess come winter.

Taos needs a big upgrade on the service that clients deserve when they travel that far. The construction of the roads was started last year and still is going on. There needs to be a finish date for the project. More upscale restaurants need to be added to the area. More shops need to be added to the main plaza. Until things get a dramatic change, travelers will not come back until the service levels of the area are improved.
