We have taken our (now adult) children to many places and many beaches over the years, but Gulf Shores is by far their favorite beach destination. If your family is not one that likes to spend the entire vacation on the beach, I would not recommend Gulf Shores as there is little else to do there. The water is gulf water so colder/cloudy vs. clear that you can find in cities like Myrtle Beach or FL beaches. Would recommend a visit to the Sunliner Diner and the Pink Pony Pub while there. If you have time, drive up to Mobile and visit the USS Alabama and the Oakleigh museum. Easy to get around the city and areas around it. Ice cream is a big thing there but be aware that none of the locations have anything different. The location is ideal to have frequent walks to the beach and there is a secured private access from the Lighthouse to the beach. We got two kiddos and they have really enjoyed the stay at Lighthouse. Haven’t had any issue with parking and had plenty of slots to park wherever we wanted.
