Soldotna is a wonderful town filled with friendly locals. The Kenai River is beautiful with the best salmon fishing! In the end of July there will be fish counts of 200,000 sockeye salmon per day coming upstream, so get your hook in the river and you are bound to catch your limit by lunchtime. The Soldotna Inn is centrally located between Soldotna and Kenai. It is an hour and a half away from Homer and Seward. The Kenai River flows through the city. Excellent restaurants, catering to all incomes, are springing up through Kenai and Soldotna. Nature is right outside your door. The Soldotna Inn is a quiet place to work or just relax. I found an unpretentious room at an excellent price, with a front desk that will aide me in directions, places to eat and things to do. This is the time to experience Soldotna in its growing phase. My room in August was 83° and NO AIR CONDITIONING, and the temperature outside was only 63° I opened the window, had a fan running around the clock, didn't help. Horrible night sleep. The bed was very hard and sounded like it was going to fall apart when I laid down & I'm not a big person 5'2" and 135lbs. Soldotna worked well for us because it it @halfway between Seward and Homer and we set up multiple activities in both places. A Mama moose with 2 calves was around the house a few times and we got some great photos.
