Asian Tradition, French Flair and Growing Modernity
With delicious Vietnamese aromas, small silk shops and ancient pagodas, the streets of Ho Chi Minh City dazzle tourists with their vibrant atmosphere. Its rich culture includes beautiful French colonial palaces mixed with modern skyscrapers that show the power of Vietnam’s economic capital.
Whether you decide to visit the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the City Hall, or the Municipal Theater, you’ll see the care shown by Saigonese people in preserving their historic legacy. On the other hand, the Haussmann-style boulevards are typically packed with small motorcycles that make every street crossing a whole new experience.
Contemporary Saigon can be seen in places like the Bitexco Financial Tower, located directly at central Ham Nghi Blvd. Meanwhile, Saigon Center or Zen Plaza are some of its modern shopping malls.
For a look into Vietnam’s recent history, don’t miss the Reunification Palace or the War Remnants Museum. A sunset visit to the 23rd September Park is the best way to mingle with the locals.

For me, I found district 1 to be better than district 3 to stay in, it just seemed to have more to see and do and was easier to get around in. The people in district 3 were a lot more friendly overall than in district 1, that is not to say district 1 people were unfriendly, on the contrary the Vietnamese people are lovely and friendly. The hop on hop off bus is a must do

The museums and the central markets were worth visiting.
The museums and the central markets were worth visiting. I think for the most memorable experience was the War Remnants Museum. Beautifully presented and extremely informative. The people Pi encountered throughout my short stay were so friendly and willing to please. I would highly recommend Ho Chi Minh city to anyone.

Lots to see and do, Temples and museums, war sites to visit, natural areas such as Mekong Delta to visit.
Many hotels to choose from and at a fair price.
Many restaurants and eating places serving wonderful Vietnamese cuisine to choose from.
Our advice - Use suncreen and a hat. Drink bottled or boiled tap water. Wash your hands with soap or sanitiser frequently especially before eating. Be careful to eat in busy restaurants where the food doesn't sit long, be careful eating salad washed in tap water (dunk it in your boiling hot Pho! ).
Experience the long distance trains. The Lotus Express is such a wonderful journey, go for the soft berths, very comfortable.
The smaller places around central, coastal Vietnam are a breath of fresh air after the big cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh.

Busy and noisy.
Busy and noisy. A must see for first time Vietnam travellers. I’ve stayed before and the Central Palace is in a cool parkland setting opposite the reunification palace. Great hotel for us older generation. No noise or kids here. Superb staff and position away from continuously tooting motor bikes.

Book when you get there.
Book when you get there. I booked online and when we got there the owner of the place we booked was unavailable so NO key. Had to go elsewhere. Book when your there. Plenty of places as we found out and don't believe the "ONLY ONE ROOM LEFT" caper. Hundreds of hotels and always rooms available. I"ll NEVER take the chance to book online again.

Comparing HCM City to other destinations in Asia, I rate it...
Comparing HCM City to other destinations in Asia, I rate it highly. I last visited in 2007 and it is cleaner, more prosperous, and much more modern. Not that it was dirty or poor then. It remains the commerical and business hub of Vietnam, much more vibrant and enterprising than other parts of Vietnam.
In 2007 there remained much subtle evidence of the 'America war': tall walls around buildings, topped with spikes or barbed wire, more dirt and 60s-70s era vehicles, air conditioners, and such. While you can find that, much of it is gone. The city is re-born. The lack of evidence of sex tourism and overt pandering to Western money is very good.
But I have reservations: Hanoi has culture and class, which suits me better. Many regional cities are more relaxed but still have beauty and comfort, without the pressure and the rush. In my opinion while Ho Chi Minh City is worth seeing, it should not be the main destination for a trip to Vietnam. But I'd CERTAINLY go there before Bangkok.
It just depends what type of person you are

The apartment is bigger than I expected. Good to accommodate 7 people. Appreciate that the apartment owner still let us check in and gave us a warm welcome even we arrived in the midnight. Everything is clean and tidy. I love the interior design which makes the apartment look warm and luxurious. Our apartment is located on the 32/f of the building so we got a superior view at the balcony of the beautiful night view of Ho Chi Minh City. The apartment is located in District 4 with only 10 minute drive to central area in district 1.
We stayed here for 5 nights and found La Siesta Premium to be the perfect hotel with great customer service. The service from the moment we arrived through our departure was wonderful. The staff were excellent, super helpful and polite. The hotel has a great location, located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City in District 1 and close to the markets, various historical sites, and restaurants. They have a beautiful rooftop bar with city views and their spa is to die for, it was excellent! I highly recommend this hotel!
Gia Huy is a no-frills hotel that is value for money and in a strategic location for those who are looking to stay in District 1 and be near Ben Thanh Market. It is definitely a plus point for Muslim travellers who are looking for the convenience of halal food as the hotel is located in Malaysia Street. It's comfortable enough for a short stay as it is pretty clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful, which was a plus point. We had an issue with wifi in one of our rooms and it was dealt with quickly.
We had a fabulous 2-bed apartment - spacious, clean and comfortable. The indoor/outdoor pool and gym were great. The food in the restaurant was also very good. The staff were friendly and helpful. A special mention for our enthusiastic young waiter, Cuong. We were a bit concerned when we realised the hotel is not in District 1 (the centre of the city) but in fact this wasn’t an issue for us as it is within walking distance of some of the main sites including the war museum and palace of independence.
Very good location, near Ben Thanh market and Nguyen Hue walking street.
I do like the breakfast and the staff who served and prepared it, huge thanks for the restaurant staff and the receptionist who are very lovely and accommodating.
The rooms and the hotel are very clean and cozy
I would choose to upgrade to the rooms with the balcony next time, I would definitely recommend to stay at this hotel if you wish to be around the central area in Ho Chi Minh city
Perfect location in district 1.
Easy walk to restaurants, bars and shops etc.
This hotel is located in a shopping centre - Saigon Centre. The staff emailed us excellent directions and we found it’s location easily.
Rooms beautifully decorated, very fresh
and clean and quite spacious.
Good open air pool on Level 6 and breakfast served daily on Level 24 with view out over city.
Would recommend this hotel for its presentation and convenient location.
The place is located in the very safe area near district 1. It’s huge department block with big shopping mall near by that you can find restaurants , supermarket and few things for kids to do there. The neighborhood is quite nice to walk around with some parks near by. Our place is clean & spacious with stunning view of the city. We highly recommend to other guests.
Great location! It is in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City but off of the main roads so it’s easy to get to and not super congested.
It’s also a 5 min walk from Turtle Lake!
The rooms are clean, large and comfortable.
The bathrooms are also updated and super clean with Japanese bidets.
The service and hotel workers are super friendly, attentive and so helpful.
Such a lovely place to stay in district 1! A 15-20 minute walk from key places in the city but was an oasis of calm set back from the main road. Rooms were so well put together - really bright and airy with a comfortable bed! Super warm reception with top tips for food recommendations and help with booking a day trip from Ho Chi Minh City.
It's really awesome experience so clean hotel so beautiful room as well as good staff for response and very care about guests as well as every place is so near this hotel so I really request to all please book this hotel if plan for visit HCM City Vietnam. So good rate also in this district 1.
Perfectly acceptable for a large modern hotel. Room was an acceptable size and clean. The bed was comfortable. Quite a good location in district 1. Nice rooftop bar with a sweeping view of the city.
The central hotel is quite good, nice rooms, very reasonable price for an accommodation near the center, lovely staff. We will come back when we come to Ho Chi Minh City
The hostel has a conveniently central location with comfortable rooms. I highly recommend staying here if you want to experience district 1 in Ho Chi Minh City.
