There was a 2am robbery outside the hotel when I was there. The hotel staff brought the individual into the hotel lobby and proceeded to call the police. Bad idea. A fight ensued and created a quite a disturbance. And put pretty much everybody in the hotel at risk. Hotel management has refused to engage on this topic. Lost a night sleep dealing with the police.

Fantastic location—just a 6–7 minute walk to Notre Dame, surrounded by great restaurants and bakeries. The room was very clean with super comfortable beds. The front desk staff were friendly, helpful, and trustworthy. They kindly stored our luggage both before check-in and after checkout, which made our days much easier. Breakfast was nice, though we only tried it once given the many nearby options. This hotel felt like staying at a best friend’s home—reliable and welcoming.

Louvre Museum

Away from the adoring crowds that gather in front of the glass-encased and untouchable vision of the Mona Lisa, the Louvre is a rich treasure trove of artistic gems. Corridors run above and below ground for such a distance that it would take you over 100 years to spend just 30 seconds in front of every masterpiece here.

    Marvellous.

Marvellous. I was temporarily disabled and to my relief there was a special separate entry and a loan of a wheelchair (I couldn’t possibly have walked all day there otherwise). Guards were also helpful guides and showed us all the elevators.

Please, do not get in the trap of spent/expect too much.

Please, do not get in the trap of spent/expect too much. Is ok if you understand nothing (on these earth) or are just looking to show off on different social media. This is a place for the ones who really understand the art, and consequentially are here for a (real) purpose, and not a just place to take pictures (selfies) of Mona Lisa. I appreciated 10x more Musee d’Orsay – even for its history. Even on g…le maps has better reviews. Please do not rush in without knowing what you are looking for. Better have wonderful picture outside.

Book tickets ahead of time and be prepared for huge crowds. Personally, we had done the Louvre since our first visit to Paris together over 30 years ago, so we thought we would give it a try this time. We can now check it off our list and will not do it again. There are just way too many people admitted to make it comfortable.

My husband is not a museum person (and I had been before) so we booked a 3 hour tour which was perfect! We saw the "popular" must sees, learned the history of the museum and skipped a bit of the crowd.

If you absolutely need to see items in the Louvre collection...

If you absolutely need to see items in the Louvre collection or brag that you did, then by all means visit as this is the only place to do so. However, the only time I would recommend visiting is if you are sure it is not crowded and you have a guide that is familiar with the layout (and current crowd control flows) and the items you are interested in. The place is too massive and the layout too confusing to figure out an itinerary yourself just based on the map and room numbers. There are dead-ends the map does nto show, and "secret" staircases and temporary levels changes (down then up) that the map does not depict very well. When crowded, it is annoying not just for the mass of people, but it assures you'll get a critical mass of ill-mannered, inconsiderate people that just ruin the experience. The "celebrity" works are just that: no more or less impressive than many of the other items in the collection. See those highlights if you are there, but I would also make sure to scan all the other items for those that are visually interesting or stunning and spend some time on those. You have to be selective: seeing everything would take you months of viists.

Spend some time in advance to book specific time slot for your visit. Mona Lisa is not worth it, there are other excellent paintings in the same wing - and without the crowd around them! Don't exhaust yourself, don't plan for more than 2-3 hours there (unless you're are a true fanatic), plan what you want to see ahead of the visit. Find yourself a Louvre app or get an interactive guide - it's easy to get lost there, the museum is huge.

What Guests Said About Louvre Museum:

  • Research your options to ensure a pleasant experience.

Research your options to ensure a pleasant experience. We found the botobus to be the most cost effective and enjoyable experience for a 2 1/2 day experience in Paris. If you can catch the last run of the evening on the botobus it is well worth it. Everything is lite up. Plan your trip to the Louvre when the are open late and allow for several hours. If you obtain their brochure prior to our visit you can determine the collections you want to ensure you see and if time permits you can explore even more. Notre Dame is a must see. There is no cost to see this wonder. Be sure to where good walking shoes. Even though Paris is a city of fashion, to really see what Paris has to offer you need to get down and explore.
