FAQs about hotels in Cardiff

The Pride of Wales

Capital of Wales, Cardiff is a wonderfully green city steeped in national pride. At its heart is enormous Bute Park, divided by the River Taff and named after the marquis that once lived in Cardiff Castle overlooking it. In fact, this is just one of 5 castles within the surrounding area.

Over the road is Cathays Park, a beautiful square flanked by Edwardian architectural masterpieces including Cardiff City Hall and the excellent National Museum of Wales. Another must-see is St Fagan’s National History Museum, one of Britain’s top attractions.

From Victorian arcades to the fabulous St David’s Centre, shopping in Cardiff is a delight. And there’s no shortage of pubs and restaurants in which to rest awhile. Those by Cardiff Bay offer particularly pleasant views.

Also by the bay are the futuristic National Assembly for Wales and the Wales Millennium Centre. Another year 2000 landmark is the Millennium Stadium, a state-of-the-art venue for international rugby and football matches, as well as concerts. Next door is Cardiff Arms Park, home to the city’s rugby union team, while Cardiff City FC’s new stadium is in the west.

Cardiff Airport is further west near Barry and Booking.com have an excellent range of hotels, B&Bs and apartments both near there and in the city centre.

St Fagans living museum was great and loved the castles.

St Fagans living museum was great and loved the castles. Visited Cardiff Bay but otherwise there wasn’t more than 2 days worth of sights. There are more things to do as day trips but can be done from a less busy area than Cardiff. There was a great bit of traffic.

    Cardiff is a wonderful city.

Cardiff is a wonderful city. The people are very friendly, and it is a lovely place just to walk around. It's relatively small, so it's easy to navigate, and it has a A LOT of pubs, and bars. The sun came out on one of the days we were there, and I think everyone within 5 miles came out too, but it just made for a great day. Everyone was just enjoying themselves. I would highly recommend it for a weekend away.

There is plenty of things to do in Cardiff for any age groups, Cardiff bay is lovely with places to eat and drink, walking around the bay looking at the monuments and visiting the Norwegian Church Arts Centre for a lovely coffee and cake, or meal and hand made gifts, or you could find the enormous crocodile?? or take a boat ride. Cardiff city centre has a lovely choice of shops and bars as well as Bute park with visitors centre and coffee shop for a relaxing time on a sunny day or the National museum of Cardiff, there is so much to do and well worth a visit

As a capitol city, Cardiff was disappointing.

As a capitol city, Cardiff was disappointing. There isn't much to see as a visitor (all done in 1 day) and it feels lacking. The city was dirty, pricey, and an enormous amount of panhandlers and clearly drug-influenced individuals asking/demanding money. Would not go back.

The location of the hotel was excellent. Just 10 minutes walking into the city centre and 5 minutes in the car to Cardiff bay. There was enough parking and it didn't cost too much. Good choices for breakfast and great bar for having drinks in the evening. We ate out so can't comment on the restaurant menu. The room was a good size for the three of us. The best thing about the Novotel was the indoor swimming pool. The pool was warm and the area around was clean and towels were provided. The gym was also well equiped.

The location was perfect for me and my family, the property is very close to the Bay and also City centre. As you can imagine having 2 toddlers and a 7 year space is needed when staying away so this was perfect for us. The host was really helpful and messaged us a list of things we can do with the kids around Cardiff some for free. Clean property and will 100% return again.

The location of the hotel is very good. You can easily walk to the city centre, castle area, shops within 20 mins. Also you can walk to the Cardiff bay area with the same amount of effort. There is a coop just opposite the road, so its very convenient that way as well. The staff are very helpful. The morning continental breakfast is an add on to the whole experience.

Location was excellent, right in the city of Cardiff. We were attending a wedding in the city and asked for early check in, if possible to allow us to get ready. They were able to honour it with no problems at all. Very much appreciated. Parking facilities were good as most city centres don’t have on site parking, this one does and is cheaper than other hotels.

As a venue the history and architecture of the coal exchange is amazing and an important piece of Welsh and Cardiff's history that we must keep and fully restore. Access, parking and location to the Bay is excellent. The entrance and main hall are very impressive and Cuddy's bar worked really well for breakfast (Which was great) and we loved the decor.
