Capital of Wales, Cardiff is a wonderfully green city steeped in national pride. At its heart is enormous Bute Park, divided by the River Taff and named after the marquis that once lived in Cardiff Castle overlooking it. In fact, this is just one of 5 castles within the surrounding area.
Over the road is Cathays Park, a beautiful square flanked by Edwardian architectural masterpieces including Cardiff City Hall and the excellent National Museum of Wales. Another must-see is St Fagan’s National History Museum, one of Britain’s top attractions.
From Victorian arcades to the fabulous St David’s Centre, shopping in Cardiff is a delight. And there’s no shortage of pubs and restaurants in which to rest awhile. Those by Cardiff Bay offer particularly pleasant views.
Also by the bay are the futuristic National Assembly for Wales and the Wales Millennium Centre. Another year 2000 landmark is the Millennium Stadium, a state-of-the-art venue for international rugby and football matches, as well as concerts. Next door is Cardiff Arms Park, home to the city’s rugby union team, while Cardiff City FC’s new stadium is in the west.
Cardiff Airport is further west near Barry and Booking.com have an excellent range of hotels, B&Bs and apartments both near there and in the city centre.
The people in Cardiff were so friendly! Everywhere we went - we were met with friendly faces. It really made our trip that much better. I'd love to go back for a longer visit. The town itself was also nice! We had the vegetarian burger at Cedar Tree Farm restaurant - delicious!

We enjoyed the great shopping facilities with plenty of choice. Very friendly people and good atmosphere everywhere. The Christmas market also added to the ambience and we enjoyed Welsh cakes and warm spicy cider.

This is a hidden gem.
This is a hidden gem. I loved the Cardiff Castle, and I took two tours of Principality Stadium, the normal tour and the trek that takes us to the walkways over the top of the dome (with zip-lining!). Public transport is easy, and the city center is a hoppin', happenin' place. I loved it!

The national museum, the museum of Cardiff and the castle...
The national museum, the museum of Cardiff and the castle are all very interesting - especially the extra guided tour of 19th century room in the castle. We also went to the docks area to see the senate, very interesting. Bute Park is a beautiful, quiet place for a stroll with lovely trees. Plenty of good restaurants in the city centre, and the city market and arcades have a great atmosphere with interesting shops.

A great little city with plenty to see and do. The Shopping centre is fully covered so provides great escape from the weather. Barry Island, Bath, Bristol are all easy to get to from Cardiff so serves really well as a base to navigate this part of the country.

Our first room was next to large doors in the corridors...
Our first room was next to large doors in the corridors which constantly opened and closed not stop with guests and staff coming and going . The room shook so much I asked if we could be moved .There was a terrible smell from the drains in the bathroom not even disinfectant cleared it. We were then moved to the next floor ( had to wait 20 mins as the lift did not stop on the 3 floor ! ) I was surprised to have been given a room smaller than our original one . Rachel rang and was very apologetic and offered us the VIP lounge .

Lovely room on the quieter side of the hotel. Easy walk to the Cardiff bay area and its attractions and nightlife. An approx 30 minute easy flat walk in to Cardiff city centre so could leave the car at the hotel to visit the parks, museums and castle - countless shops and the lovely historic market hall which was a highlight for us!! All staff we encountered at the hotel were lovely and the room was comfortable and clean on arrival.
Lovely clean apartment, easy check in, good communication, lift access, quiet, perfect for us Loads of food/bars/coffee/breakfast in Cardiff Bay which is a cracking place to stay. Use the ferry to the city centre. Taxi is £10 Ferry £15 for 2 but very nice..
Great location, 15-20min walk to City centre, or to Cardiff Bay, along the dock. Room clean, beds v comfortable and powerful shower. Breakfast excellent despite an 'express' hotel - full english, pancake machine and croissants etc.
Excellent location, a short walk from city centre and not far from Cardiff bay. Rooms are comfortable enough for a short stay, though not very spacious, but for the money we paid, it was great value.
lots of lovely little touches. Excellent location for the Cardiff Bay area. plenty of nearby shops, pub and fast food outlets good local transport connections to city centre.
