Beautiful island! Would recommend 3 full days here. We had one day renting a scooter and going to the national park (1h30 hike) and 2 caves near the National Park. Then we went on the night boat trip with kayaking & swimming to see the bioluminescence plankton. Then the next day we went on the Lan Ha Bay & Halong Bay boat trip with kayaking. Both trips were booked with Cat Ba Local who we'd highly recommend! Then the third day we walked around town to see the markets and went to the 3 beaches. Then hired a tandem bike in town in the evening! Lovely island so allow time to relax and enjoy it. It was very easy to get around and book any trips the day before via tour agencies or hotels.

It is convenient to travel to Cat Ba from Hanoi city, only 3 hours travelling. You can enjoy both sea and forest at the same trip in Cat Ba island. Food is the most I like in Cat Ba, especially sea food and ice cream.AAnonymous - 6.0Scored 6.0

There is no beach in the bay. You have to travel further afield. It would be good to know when your chosen hotel/accommodation is on a steep hill. Cat Ba has a great little market, a few good restaurants, good foot massage and friendly folks

Cat Ba is a nice spot to just chill. There is good accommodation around and lots of eating place to choose from. You can also spend 8 hours cruising on the bay if you wish with lunch included. The cruise was very enjoyable. Oasis restaurant on the main street is a great place to eat, drink or have a cup of coffee. The food is great there. They have a pool table there and it's free to play. If you want to go to the beach, it's near the Flamingo Resort which is a 20 minutes walk to the left of the main road if you're facing the bay.

We were idiots and missed the last ferry to cat ba Island, so she sent a flippin speed boat to come get us!! Epic experience. She also helped us secure our boat tour, did our washing and called a bus to come pick us up when we went back to Hanoi. Couldn’t ask for better service. My room was a nice size and overlooked the pool. The staff were amazing all around. The breakfast was included in the price and was slighty underwhelming. The towels were changed every day which is nice given the pool and beaches. They have a small restaurant for the guests which is pretty convenient, and the homestay is located right in the middle of the island, surrounded by nature, but they rent motorbikes so you can explore this beautiful place. The rooms are so much better than we expected and they clean it every day. The best hostel that we've stayed in Vietnam so far!DavidSpain

In the short stay of ours, we did manage to get a couple of cocktails up there. The place was ideal. There seemed to be a really handy tourist info place a couple of doors down from the hotel. They organized the transfer of ours to the port to capture the cruise as well as rented us a motor scooter so we might fly all over the island for the morning. To get to the center of Cat Ba Town it takes a 10 to 15 minutes walk. Everything was clean and there is enough space for all tourists. We easily rented 2 scooter at the hotel and explored the island by ourselves. We can definietly recommend this place, if you are looking for a comfortable stay not directly in the center.
