We liked the coded entry for the doors instead of a key or card.
Nanaimo is a cool little city. Depending on the goal of your trip renting a vehicle is recommended, since the city is spread out. As well there is much to see in surrounding areas. With the ocean, mountains and forest this community is surrounded by nature and beauty!

We had a great dinner at Firehouse Grill and fantastic coffee at Regards Coffee and the walk along the waterfront was nice but nothing super special, in all honesty it's kind of a dreary, quiet place that isn't very pretty. Maybe it has way more to offer than what meets the eye but I truly wouldn't care to stay there for more than a night passing through.

There was a couple of RATS outside by the pool but they stayed away from people. The hot tub wasn’t working either. But the pool was GLORIOUS and the room was clean to perfection. It was a nice place to sleep in!

I didn't see much of Nanaimo, just Petraglyph Park, before heading to Victoria. This side of Nanaimo was quiet, and I left very early. One great thing about South Nanaimo is its proximity to the Duke Point Ferry - a short drive. Also, the lack of nightlife meant my visit was quiet.
I would recommend visiting Petraglyph Park. It's not easy to find it, you have to be driving on the northbound side, but it's beautiful. I've enjoyed other aspects of Nanaimo in the past, especially the Woodgrove area, and I've found people there very friendly.

The ocean was the best part as there are many places to visit and the views are awesome. People were very friendly everywhere I went. The city is kept quite clean. Parks are nicely attended. Overall visit was very pleasant. Easy to get around having a vehicle as everything is very spread out. Piper's Cove and the harbor downtown were favorite.
What went well?
The 4 day visit from start to finish far exceeded my expectations.
Darlene the owner/hostess is a wonderful person.
She cooked me incredible breakfasts every morning and even sat chatting with me for a couple of hours each morning.
The breakfasts were incredible and far better than eating in a restaurant.
The B&B was very comfortable and made me feel right a home.
Definitely the place to stay in Nanaimo, BC!!!
When I drove up I was underwhelmed as the building looks a little old school from a distance. I was late checking in, but there were still a few parking spots close to the front door. When I walked in everything was fresh and new, staff were fantastic and the room I was in felt recently renovated. Carpet was new, bed was perfect, room was very clean. Best hotel sleep I've had in a very long time. So quiet in there.
I was a bit resistant to book a motel at first due to the impression I had from TV shows. But after staying at this hotel, I found it exceeded my expectations. I could feel that the owner must be very detail-oriented and clean. I really enjoyed the stay at Buccaneer Inn. I will come back if I had the chance to come back Nanaimo..
Location was perfect. Right downtown and across the street from the harbour.
I very quickly grew confidence in staff happily altering my requests, with issues as my arrival time changing due to flight disruptions.
All staff from front desk to housekeeping were so accommodating, friendly, and eager to assist. Best stay ever!
I really liked the location. It is right off of the main road that connects you to all the shopping services that Nanaimo has to offer. Everything was approximately a 15 minute drive from the hotel, which was great for remembering how to get back at the end of the day.
The unit with spotless, new, well laid out. It was very secure with the codes for a front door and hotel room door. The shower was to die for. This hotel by far exceeded my expectations based on the inexpensive price. The reception staff was very pleasant.
Staff were lovely, rooms were clean and comfortable, and the whole hotel had a unique boutique vibe. Showers were fantastic too!
Also a just a short walk to a bunch of food places, which was lovely for me arriving after a long day of travel.
The location is pretty convenient to the downtown area, and it's about C$20 cheaper than 2* hotels with private rooms. The shared kitchen is nice for camaraderie but the stoves are in poor repair and the equipment (knives etc.) is crap.
Immaculate kitchen and common rooms. Very friendly and warm and welcoming people who were in residence there. Really exceeded my expectations all around and is so incredibly central to anything downtown Nanaimo has to offer.
One of the best apartments we ever stayed at. Large, nice furnishings, all you need is there. It's very close to the waterfront, perfect for disabled people, there is an elevator opening straight into the living room.
The location worked well for us, about 10-12 minutes from downtown Nanaimo. The suite was new and clean. Beds were new looking but firm. Host was friendly and responded to most questions quickly.
I loved that they have a hotel dog. The lady was very friendly at the front desk too. If the ferry ever gets canceled and I’m stuck in Nanaimo again , I will definitely stay there again .
Not too far from down town nanimo , about a 12 min walk to the harbour which was great for us as we are walkers ! This hotel is new , stylish and very clean ! Staff was very friendly
Beautiful inn, extremely clean and quiet. Amazing view and the staff were all helpful and welcoming. Lots of guest amenities. Beautiful lake, beautiful view. Pet friendly.
We really liked the view of the harbour and how close this facility is to walk around the heritage downtown. Clean linen and well equipped bathroom were enjoyable as well.
Best value in Nanaimo. Clean, spacious and well laid out room. Lots of plugs for charging devices. Great budget room within walking distance of downtown.
