A good stopping point on a trip along the Great Ocean Road. Not as expensive, pretentious or busy in winter as Lorne is. Great fish and chips at the Fishman's Co-op., which was not too busy in winter but would be very hectic in summer of holiday periods. Apollo Bay in the winter is quieter, which is lovely. Lots to do and see nearby. Like anywhere on the Great Ocean Road, it is busy, lots of tourists and expensive, which make it unbearable in the summer. It has the best of everything - beautiful coastline, views, rolling hills, and forest. Like all good coastal town, it is growing up and becoming developed which definitely spoils the charm it held 50 years ago, but such is life.Guest review bySarahAustralia - 10.0

Lovely place to stop along The Great Ocean Road. All of the essentials are within walking distance with interesting shops and a great choice of places to eat as well as 2 supermarkets. Booked a single room only to discover it’s attached to a family room with just a door between us. We could hear the people next door walk around, cough, go to the toilet, listen to their conversations, hear the tv. We might as well have been sharing a room with the other guests. They also need to drop the luxury part of thier name - it was the most soulless room I have ever stayed in. The beach, the atmosphere, friendly retailers and people. We had perfect weather while there which I suppose helped to make our stay great. Apollo Bay is a beautiful, calm and relaxed place for a holiday. Just an hour from Lorne, and a stone's throw to the Cape Otway national Park, you are surrounded by beauty. The beach is beautifully clean, white sand and calm waters for young or inexperienced swimmers. There are a few good shops in town and a growing foodie scene (highly recommend Coco Indonesian/French restaurant for dinner and dessert). Locals are very friendly, lots of people with dogs along the shopping strip. Definitely book at least 3 nights here and use as a base to tour the local highlights such as Wildlife Experiences, Cape Otway Lighthouse, the 12 Apostles, Cape Otway Fly, waterfalls and more.Guest review byCatherineAustralia
