Port Douglas has many things to offer, many adventures to be had and lots to see. There are plenty of places to dine ,restaurants, cafes, hotels and really good ice cream places. The views are great and its an easy place to get around. You can also just relax and take it all in. A great place to stay.

I feel Port Douglas is a one trip per lifetime experience. We went there 17 years ago and loved it but the second trip wasn't as enjoyable. It wasn't aweful - just a bit......meh! Probably spoilt by Europe vacations where the restaurants and cafes are just so nice to hang out in for hours. The cafes really didn't have a huge breakfast menu and the fish and chip shop really didn't make the best fish and chips...nowhere near it in fact.. I couldn't find a nice bakery, maybe I wasn't looking hard enough. I enjoyed the wharf area to sit and have a bite to eat and a bubbly - it reminded me more of a coastal holiday venue there than anywhere else we visited in Port Douglas. Any activities that weren't free were mostly quite expensive. I understand why the expense but the average couple/family don't want to go away on holiday thinking about how far their holiday dollar can stretch. Our next trip will definately be further down South in Qld. More to do - not as expensive. Port Douglas is good to just hang out at and relax with a few varying activities but for a Melbournian there are prettier, cheaper, more exciting places to visit to do exactly that plus more in Qld and NSW - even Victoria. Port Douglas Holiday - Once was enough - I suppose would sum it up. Did I have high expections of our holiday ? Yes, as I should for the cost of flights, accomodation and activities. Were my expectations met? - Only occassionally . Activity recommendations :- 1. Snorkelling on the barrier reef (albeit expensive for a family) 2. A guided tour around the Mossman Gorge by an indigneous guide (well worth it and not too expensive for a family) 3. Morning walks on 4 mile Beach (costs nothing) 4. Afternoon swims at the beach (costs nothing)

Great for families, though we were wary of entering any form of water due to risk of crocs. Choo Choo's for breakfast the marina was our favourite! Mossman Gorge was very pretty and well looked after. The scenery in the area is stunning. There are many gorgeous beaches and lookouts. There was a good water play park for Kids at 4 Mile Beach. Lovely for a spot of shopping. plenty of delicious ice-cream shops. Cafes and restaurants - something for every age and taste.

Beautiful town with heaps of really nice restaurants and bars. Shopping is a bit pricey, catered for tourists. We went to the Sunday market and it would have to be the most expensive market we have ever been to! A big draw card would have to be Melaleauca restaurant - very nice! The boat cruise on Lady Douglas was really good - we saw crocodiles in the wild and were offered a drink and snack box. Very good value and would recommend. We had dinner at the Tin Shed and it was also really nice - great seafood. The Central Hotel is a great place to watch sport on the big TV. Port Douglas is easy to get around, however we were glad that we had a car. We used the hotel shuttle bus to go into the restaurants at night time and if it wasn't raining or too cold, we could walk back to the hotel which was about 25 minute walk.

Very comfortable beds is a must for us and they were just that. Great accommodation and service especially the baggage guys at the service desk. Breakfast buffet style the best. Your choice of everything. In house service very good, fast, efficient, good food. Used Uber services instead of hiring a car. Fast efficient not expensive. Good places to eat on the Main Street and Wharf street. Overall a great holiday.

We liked the variety of restaurants available in Port Douglas and there were plenty of shops to browse and a good Coles. It was easy to get in and out of town with the shuttle bus (though the cost built up) 10 days there was too long, good to go on some trips both out to reef(though nothing like the main Great Barrier Reef) and out to Mossman, Cape Tribulation. Worth hiring a car for a few days. Worth doing the climb near the beach for the view.
