Hotel Orchidee is located in the center of Aalter. They provide modern rooms with a buffet breakfast and free WiFi throughout the building. In transit and we booked this hotel for its location, car parking and reasonable cost. On arrival we found a friendly efficient reception, a spacious and well equipped room, a bathroom with an excellent shower, a well stocked bar with good service and a superb breakfast. We were directed to a good restaurant around the corner for dinner. This hotel delivered everything we needed!
Apollonia B&B is located between the 2 historical cities of Ghent and Bruges. This B&B is just perfect. Blissfully quiet and surrounded by beautiful countryside. They have a lovely array of Belgium beers in the fridge and the continental breakfast is delicious. We have stayed here twice now and will definitely return again.
B&B Het Eycken Huys lies in a calm, country setting, 10 minutes’ drive from Aalter. It offers on-site bicycle rental service and cozy accommodations with free WiFi access. Location was perfect for visiting Ghent, Bruge or both. Breakfast was amazing and very filling. The host was very welcoming and the room was spacious and very clean.
Set in Aalter, 28 mi from Knokke-Heist, Beaux Temps b&b offers a bar and free WiFi. There is a fully equipped shared bathroom with bath and a hairdryer. The house is incredible. It's typical dutch style house with nice and cosy garden. We bougt Cava from the owner and we enjoyed it outside at the garden. At night we moved to the covered winter garden which has cosy sofa. The rooms are big enough, beds are super comfy. And the bathroom, ahhh, so spacious, we loved it. The breakfast was fabulous. Anything you need for a breakfast, delicious cheese, ham, vegetables, bread, coffee, tea, yoghurt, fresh orange juice, great. Parking is possible outside on the street.
Aalter isn't much to look at but the main square has a few nice, typical Belgian restaurant/cafés where you can enjoy a nice steak or some mussels along with a Jupiler beer. It's right next to the main motorway between Calais and Brussels, about halfway between Bruges and Gent so ideal for a stopover.
We were going from Wales to Berlin and needed an overnight stay, somewhere we could get a good sleep and a nice breakfast in the midst of all the driving. About 75 mins from Channel tunnel so one feels one has made inroads on the trek across Europe before stopping for the night. Quiet town, nice restaurant in the square, the train to Bruges (15 mins) offers a chance to see a little bit of the city while passing through.
A very small town, easy driving distance from Ghent and Bruges. The market square has a few restaurants, one of which ( the green bean translated ?) serves wonderful food. Worth a visit just for afternoon tea or supper.
We used Aalter as a base to visit friends in Eeklo, Maldegem and Lovendegem., where accomodation prices seem to be much higher. Handy for the coast and Bruges and Gent also. A few nice bars which also do food.
You really need a car to get around. The apartment wasin the middle of nowhere. the restaurant was busy at night though we didnt try it ourselves. the nearest supermarket we found was the other side of Aalter it was an Aldi, so I would think you could get most of your supplies from there.
I enjoyed the tranquillity and privacy, as well as the quality of the room and its furnishings. To make my stay even better, there could have been instructions of how to use the heater, the provision of a wine glass and a small saucepan. When working at the table a table lamp or a directed wall light would have improved things. Not everyone has GPS in their car. Better directions would have helped.
