We visited the Volcano Irazu. Amazing view of the crater and small lake inside. Beautiful drive to the volcano through the mountains. Worth the drive just for that. Another nice drive was the valley Orosi around the lake. Also did the NP Tapanti, great park to drive thru and do all the hikes. Did the thermal springs in Orosi, fun place to hang out with the locals. Not as good as LaFortuna but it is a thermal pool.

Turrialba is not a tourist town, so was a nice change from some of the 'hot spots' that attract many visitors. The farmers' market was a treat and we didn't see any tourists. Good restaurants. Take a scenic drive to visit the Gauyabo Monument to learn about the early inhabitants of the area and see the stone structures, aqueducts, and road. Nice paths through the forest, too.
We visited in mid-March so the rivers were not flowing enough for exciting whitewater rafting.
Lis and her staff have created such a lovely and welcoming spot in the center of Turrialba! A perfect balance between the cleanliness and quiet of a hotel, and the friendliness of a hostel. Lis was incredibly helpful as well, going so far as to coordinate a cheese tour for us (recommend!!) even though this tour wasn't officially offered when we were visiting. We loved our stay here and were sad to leave!
Very nice hotel with a very kind and helpful recepcionist, Sonja. The room was a good size with private bathroom. We had breakfast included which was a delicious, typical costa rican breakfast. We tried the restaurant one night and the food was tasty and good portion. The location is nice and peaceful. A bit far from the bus terminal but it can be reached easily by car/taxi. We had a nice stay there.
The staff tries to please but lack of any staff with good English to figure out when checking out -how they want to be paid and how much to pay, and the hotel being run down with electric outlets, fridge not working, etc was disappointing. You need to pay in cash (we didn't know that ahead of time and it was a problem). The place is very difficult to find. There's a pretty view once you get there.
beautiful location, great house with history (oldest coffee plantation), great and interesting coffee tour (2h), delicious dinner and rich breakfast (typical Costa Rican food), friendly personal. Some Spanish knowledge is helpful though.
We stayed here before going to the airport (2.5 - 3h drive due to heavy traffic), and it was a highlight for the last night in Costa Rica.
The view of the volcano was wonderful, the meals were authentic, but most importantly, the staff (aka owners) were the most hospitable people a guest could hope for. They assisted in arranging transportation and our recreational activities, neither of which disappointed. The location is very secluded, intimate, and relaxed. Exactly what we were hoping for!
There is this absolutely spectactular overlook of the valley and Turrialba volcano a five minute walk from the house - all on the owner's property which is truly worth the 1/4 mile walk uphill. The house was clean and had everything you needed including a full kitchen. There were some neat birds for us in the yard including a trogon and lots of parrots.
We stayed for a couple of days to enjoy the wonderful Turrialba, San Rafael, Santa Cruz and San Antonio, it's a great small hotel with beautiful gardens and Luis was a fabulous host, providing excellent tips on activities that we could do in the area. We had a really good time, did some hiking, bird watching, waterfalls... would love to come back.
The owner was a great gentleman. He showed us how to get to the waterfall whuch is not a simple task. The hotel is a bit out of the way and a little tricky to find. Our google map took us to the north of Turrialba near the volcano and down a very rocky road. I would avoid this way in the future, and come from the south through Turrialba town.
Amazing, definitely something we had never done before. A small cabin surrounded by beautiful nature and next to a beautiful river. The breakfast and dinner was wonderful as well. Some great activities on offer too. We went horse riding for the first time and it was beautiful.
We recommend a 4x4 even though the road has recently improved.
it’s a bit outside of the city center and it’s a more quiet and very beautiful, lovely place, run by a local family☺️ the rooms are very nice, clean and comfortable. there two beautiful terraces with hammocks to enjoy the view on the volcano of turrialba. it’s a great place to rest and to get to know turrialba and Santa Rosa ☺️
Thanks to the staff and particularly Joel for a great stay. Location of the hotel is deep into the forest and next to a free flowing river. Views from the restaurant were fantastic. An abundance of bird life. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced.
The staff is very friendly and willing to help. The plus is that it is a hotel that is hidden away so if you want to feel in nature and have privacy it is a good place. The fire pit was a nice area and plenty of wood to keep the fire going all night.
Everything!!! The Cabin, the views, the property, the Sloth the Toucans, Raquel and Daniel, dinner, breakfast - all so thoughtful and with love! We live in Costa Rica and cannot wait to return to this magical place! Muchas gracias!!
This place is a must if once you visit Costa Rica. To be honest the veune its perfect, the view, feeling of being alone in the Mountain... cannot find word to discribe such a beautiful place. Just thank for sharing this paradise 🥰
we only stayed one night but truly loved the place and the room - definitely clean with a great kitchen and nice place to hang out outside ! a nice adress for anyone passing by Turrialba
