Lena had been looking out for us and on our arrival gave us a very warm welcome - a lovely lady. She also left us a plateful of fruit and during our stay brought us some of her delicious baking, and on Easter day included us in an Easter egg ritual. We had hoped to catch the Easter celebrations, not realizing that they were only on the Monday when we were due to leave. Lena didn't know that we had hoped to see them, but asked us if we would like to stay a further night at no cost, in order that we might see them.

Located in the village of Kakopetria, the traditionally built Patriko offers spacious accommodations with a fully equipped kitchen and a large balcony overlooking the picturesque surroundings.
Kakopetria is a beautiful mountain village here in Cyprus, probably the busiest as far as tourists are concerned. Close to Troodos, lots of good food (I recommend the Mill Restaurant), and beautiful scenery all around. Close to some of the UNESCO world heritage site Painted Churches. This is one of our favourite places to bring friends visiting from out of the country.
Kakopetria is one of the larger villages on the Cypriot mountains so it is often more busy and bustly than the rest. At the Platia cafe you can find a variety of cypriot deserts. Right in the middle of Kakopetria runs the old Kakopetria road. It is a steep, cobbled path lined with restored cypriot village style houses, many of which have been converted to inns. Very picturesque. The old road runs above a river with water coming down from the small waterfalls at Saint Nicholas village further up. It is an absolutely wonderful place, and i am told in winter it is quite magical. The best thing to do is to rent a room in one of the inns in Old Kakopetria. In the winter, if you are lucky, you can get a working fireplace there as well. The village is within easy access to Troodos square, Platres (even more magical, also has a chocolate factory), Omodos (part of the wine villages route), Lania (artists' village) and many more.
Kakopetria is a quaint little village if you stay within the very small area of the old village and avoid the outer modern rim which is an unaesthetic village. Lots of hikes and nature trails in the mountains around the area (a car is advised if you don't wish to walk extra kms to reach your chosen trail). Also, important historic churches (what else) within the village and in the vicinity. Restaurants? Only one worth the quality, the Village Pub, run and owned by a one armed expat (actually he's local but had lived in the UK for extended decades), hence the quality. Not much else.
Kakopetria is a gem in the mountains ...we would go to the river and just sit there for hours listening to the sound of runing water ...eating figs from trees ...meditating ...what else could we ask for ...inner peace ...yep ..this is it.
Nice mountain village with great places to eat and things to keep small children busy such as the park, the lake with ducks and fish, strolls around the old village. Nice and cheap places to eat good food and traditionald deserts. Convenient spot for short trips to neighbouring villages.
Kakopetria is an amazing place, with a lot of things to do there. Food is great! Prices at the center are a bit expensive in some places and the servis must be better but is logical because i went high season.

Absolutely picturesque location in Old Kakopetria down a narrow cobbled lane. Rooms are traditional with basic facilities with private balconies over a babbling stream. Beautiful area for walking and exploring. Many restaurants a short walk down the hill. The lady who showed us to our room was absolutely lovely and clearly keen to help, despite a language barrier.
