Beautiful old city. The Cervantes home museum was great. Just walking around was awesome. Plenty of restaurants of all sorts, and with good prices. I ate at Puebla, a mexican restaurant/taquería at the Calle Mayor and it was Very good.
This is Miguel de Cervantes birthplace but the only thing to see are a couple statues and his childhood home. This is mostly reconstructed and very small (free, though). There wasn't any information about him or Don Quixote. There is an old Roman city to see almost out of town (you can walk though). It's mostly in Spanish but it was very interesting. A day trip from Madrid on the C line would've been better than staying overnight.
Very pleasant university town, the birthplace of Cervantes and a world heritage site. Easy to walk around and situated about 30 minutes drive from Madrid airport making it an above average overnight stop before catching a plane
The Cernvantes Square area is a lovely place to stroll especially in the evening ( along with the townsfolk) leading onto the high street shopping, restaurants, cafes and the Cervantes Museum. The hop on, hop off train is a bit of a boneshaker and a litte overpriced but does give you a feel for Alcala and takes you out to the Complutum Roman ruins.
Small city near Madrid that worth visiting. Many historic monuments to see - University of Alcalá, Cervantes house, Complutum, Plaza de Cervantes, churches, markets ... and many places to eat well. And also over 100 storks :)
Old town that still has their buildings in the central area. A University town and one that Miguel de Cervantes was brought up in, and you can visit his old house (for free). Catherine of Aragon was also born here, so it has the history, and you have an idea of, that it was a grand place in it's day (and still is). Not an essential place to visit maybe, but worth a morning or afternoon away from Madrid. There may be more important places to go to around Madrid, but this is a break away from the tourists if that is what you want to do, and you have the time. Loved the storks all dotted around town, on their huge nests perched high up, which adds to the character. Overall a relaxing place.
A very strange and unusual hotel. One drives in and enters a garage whose door has been opened by reception. One’s room is above the garage, so the setting is entirely private. Reception closes the garage door and you must phone reception to get it open again. Breakfast is delivered to the room via a dumb waiter.
