Situated on the banks of the River Lark, The Riverside House Hotel offers free WiFi, free parking, and picturesque river views. The staff make this decent hotel exceptional. They are so friendly and helpful and we had a lovely stay with our two children
Set in a converted coaching inn, the 18th-century Bell Hotel features original oak beams and traditional fireplaces. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was excellent, so was the bar meal we had. It was all clean except the windows , but saying this we have found all the places we have stayed in do not clean the windows and window frames.
Rich in original character and historic charm, this 500-year-old boutique-style coaching inn offering a cosy pub with real ales, wines and an open log fire is situated on the edge of the Thetford... Brilliant location, food was delicious and good value, staff friendly, room lovely, clean and quirky, good parking and good distance from The July Course. About 20 minutes by taxis. Breakfast was delicious as well
Located in Barton Mills, in the Forest Heath district of Suffolk, Appletree Cottages offer tranquil accommodation with free Wi-Fi, free parking, and BBQ facilities. Very cute cottage. Friendly host, warm, comfy beds and easy parking right in front of the cottage.
The Annexe I & II at Asbit Lodge is located in Mildenhall. The guest house provides both free WiFi and free private parking. The location was perfect for our particular interest (we're aviation enthusiasts). So being practically a street away from the end of RAF Mildenhall's runway, was the big attraction for us. The Annex really is a lovely place. The fact that it is located in an industrial estate is totally irrelevant, it's an almost surreal haven. Once inside you wouldn't think the factories/business's were there. Ideally located for going into Mildenhall village for a night out, (and only around the corner from the legendary "Angels Cafe", where we breakfasted every morning!). I'm absolutely delighted with this set up and will most definitely be back again for more. My only regret was not actually getting to meet Claire, who sounds like a lovely host. Maybe next time around.
Thistle Cottage is situated in Mildenhall and offers a restaurant. The accommodation is 33 km from Cambridge, and guests benefit from complimentary WiFi and private parking available on site. House was well equipped with everything that you could ask for.
Mildenhall is a pretty town, with evidence of older buildings everywhere. Some nice bespoke shops, several eateries and a quirky one way system! We had fish and chips while there at Rumbles in the high st - we were able to sit in on one of the three available tables and they were excellent fish and chips. Freshly cooked & beautiful. Be mindful there is an active military airfield nearby so it does get extremely busy at times.
Mildenhall was rather scruffy with many closed shops. There appeared a lack of much to do with limited shopping. There were footpaths along the river but seemed to be closed off. Luckily Mildenhall was not far from other small towns. There was a lack of good restaurants although the local butchers were open and very accommodating. We would not visit Mildenhall again.
I'm giving this 5* as I'm a aviation photographer and it's 5mins from RAF Mildenhall and 10mins from RAF Lakenheath making it ideal for that reason. The town itself is a nice size with places to eat and plenty of local amenities.
Having lived locally for 70 years and now living abroad it was lovely to catch up with family and friends. Staff at the Riverside Hotel made them all very welcome when they came to visit us Thank you
Mildenhall would make a good base for visiting the Thetford Forest area and villages in the southern part of Suffolk. There is a small museum about 2 minutes walk away from the hotel. Market day is Friday, but so small that it is not worth bothering about. The A11 road gets you very close to Mildenhall.
Mildenhall is a small East Anglian market town with lots of history attached to it. Very good small museum in the centre of town. an impressive church directly opposite the Bell Hotel. Traffic going through the town is a bit heavy for the small roads.
