About Monmouth

Monmouth, a charming town in the United Kingdom, is nestled in the heart of the Wye Valley. Its climate is temperate, with mild summers averaging 68°F and cool winters around 40°F. Rainfall is evenly distributed throughout the year, making the landscape lush and green.

The town is known for its rich history and stunning architecture. Visit the Monmouth Castle, birthplace of Henry V, or stroll through the Nelson Garden, a memorial to Admiral Lord Nelson. The town is easily navigable by foot, but driving is also an option for exploring the surrounding countryside.

Immerse yourself in the local culture by attending the Monmouth Festival, a free nine-day music festival held every summer. Don't miss out on trying the traditional Welsh Cawl, a hearty stew made with lamb and root vegetables. The town is also a gateway to the Wye Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, perfect for hiking and nature walks.

Monmouth is a lovely town with lots of shops, market, places to eat and theatres. We stayed to go to the theatre and had an excellent evening show with Alfie Moore. There are excellent butcher shops and M&as food . There are lovely riverside walks and further afield the Forest of Dean to explore.

Monmouth itself is very pretty and quite touristy. We didn't spend too much time there but explored the countryside and villages around. We went to Symonds Yat, Tintern Abbey, Chepstow and a couple of castles. What a beautiful area. This area is also quite food-y. In fact the small restaurant we used on our first evening had a Michelin star - how lucky was that?

There isn't much to do here, but the point of our trip is always the same, so we do get a lot of enjoyment out of it. People are so friendly and helpful. The only place I know where around 80% of the population say good morning, and acknowledge you. Two definite recommendations - if going in August head to Harts (fantastically discounted bras and swimwear for the ladies), and don't leave without going to Coffee Lab. Superb!

Monmouth is a lovely small town, with an excellent array of shops, including many small specialised enterprises, some interesting historic buildings, beautiful countryside around and also very friendly people. There is plenty to do and see in the town and it is a great centre for visiting cities such as Cardiff, Hereford, Cheltenham and Bristol. Not far from Monmouth is Symonds Yat, on the border between England and Wales, and some fantastic border castles such as Goodrich, Skenfrith and the White Castle. Road links too are very good.

We did not stay long enough ( one night ) we will be going back to stay longer, it would be a good base to explore the area. It will be car based as Dr. Beeching put paid to to good public transport in the area.

Bharat was very welcoming and helpfully sent us in advance a list of places to eat in the area, together with clear directions for locating the house. Our bedroom was large, tastefully furnished, clean and comfortable. At this time of year, heaters in b&b and hotel bathrooms often prove inadequate, but that was not the case at Torlands. No chilly shiverings and damp towels for us. The spacious guest lounge on the top floor is lovely, with stunning views across the surrounding countryside.

John's Lookout was the perfect property for our stay in Monmouth. The location was perfect - a few minutes walk into the town and very easily accessible to get onto the motorway. The view was absolutely amazing and the neighbourhood was quiet. The actual house was a home away from home with all the modern amenities and very nice finishes complete with outdoor entertainment area.

We only had a one night stay en route for Pembrokeshire so this was a perfect location on a main route with a 10 min walk to Monmouth centre for evening dining. Then back to the hotel for a nightcap at the friendly bar. Room was clean, shower first class and a hearty breakfast included. Excellent value for money.

Staff friendly and helpful. They were in a bit of a catch 22 situation as the hotel was just about to close for refurbishment for 4 weeks and so had no other facilities or food provision available. This was explained up front so not too much of a problem.

The hotel was centrally place for my evening with a colleague, the quirky nature of the layout leads you think the room may also be quirky but it is pleasantly surprising to see the rooms are of a high standard and the layout provides plenty of space.

Neil was so friendly and interesting. The place is full of history and character and if you're looking to stay somewhere other than a typical hotel, then this place is for you. Original fireplaces from the 16th century. Amazing!

We never stayed there as the electric was off and they could not find the key to open the cupboard where the fuse box was. We got refunded and went and booked a different hotel. Would be net book this place again

Hotel was of good standard, bed a little too firm for me but bathroom clean and adequate. Building appears to have a slight tilt, room appeared to tilt slightly to one side along with some of the corridors.
