Cong is a beautiful historic village with its own dramatic ruined Abbey and the extraordinarily beautiful woods adjacent to Ashford Castle. There are many lovely walking trails amidst the huge trees - that include some redwoods. Sadly, many trees were downed during the devastating Storm Eowyn in January 2025, so a number of trails, including access to Lough Corrib beach, have been blocked. Also, be aware that this is a popular tourist area and buses can disgorge large groups at any time during the day. All the more reason to stay overnight!Guest review byRobertUnited States - 10.0

A beautiful , well-kept little village with so much to...
A beautiful , well-kept little village with so much to explore on foot. The Abbey is free to visit and there are several river and woodland walks leading from it. Lots of wildlife to be seen, herons, ducks and even a leaping salmon! Lydons was a great place to stay and to eat in. Beautiful village.
Beautiful village. Probably one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have ever been. Lots to do and a good location for several excursions. The restaurants in the village were all good. The service and the food were exceptional. The boat trip on the Loch was amazing. If I were Irish, I would move to Cong. I have never felt so relaxed and at peace. This is a very charming town.
This is a very charming town. There is a lovely little river that streams through the town and there are great little trails that are fun to walk through. There are lots of cute shops and I bought some books about Irish history while there. Of course, Cong is famous for being the film site for "The Quiet Man" which brings in lots of people . Beautiful city with a whole pile of history and things to see. There is fantastic forest walks, amazing caves and fantastic ruins and burial sites. Very well maintained and clean and very easy to get around. Food in the Crowes Nest was fantastic and the staff were really friendly. Geraldine’s communication pre-arrival was extremely helpful. The whole property was immaculately clean. Breakfast was great and plentiful. In room T.V, WiFi, Tea and coffee and toiletries, were enjoyed. Great location just outside Cong village, near Ashford Castle and the stunning Connemara National Park.
