Riomaggiore is said to be originally a fisherman's village. It is one of the prettiest in the five towns of Cinque Terre (next to Vernazza, but Vernazza doesn't have much going on like Riomaggiore). You can visit the other towns via hike, boat or train (around 5 euros per ride but I think they have something like unlimited ride per day, which we didn't take as we did hiking). Bonus tips: - Sunsets are amazing by the breakwater, bring your beers with you! or you can also watch from above, there is a bar called La Conchiglia - try the fried seafood on 'cone' (wrapped paper to hold the fried seafoods) - Stay at Aa Ciasèa duu Pintùu (Gabriella is the best host! and the rooms are centrally located, with seaviews and super clean), you're welcome! ;)
The town is gorgeous. Busy of course but charming. One stop from La spezia. You really need to pack light. My husband and I packed our clothes in one carry on to avoid pushing another one. But we traveled with a car so we had a place where to leave the other suitcase. I eat at local bakery of course. The Dau Cila restaurant was so good. For quick bites, I loved the fried fish/veggies at Pescelato (I hope no typing mistakes). So fresh and crispy and not greasy at all. The ice cream was the shop right at the top of the hill facing the famous red building. But I think all of them are good! Safe travels 🙏
We loved the genuine atmosphere of the town and the entire region. Very friendly and helpful people in the area. Good variety of restraints. Very good train connections between the towns and the airport. No need to hire a car.
The beginning of every stay is getting there, and Chiara went over and above with detailed photo and video directions. We arrived late evening from the train station and it was so reassuring to know exactly where we were going, step by step. The apartment is charming and more roomy than you might think and Riomaggiore is magical. You can hear the sea all night and see the moon reflected on the water. If you haven't stayed somewhere like this before, it's a pinch-yourself moment.
It's a great base for walking. You can walk from door up to the monastery, up the side of the hill to the next village, and there are many other trails. There are regular trains to the other four villages, or you can take the ferry and get views from the sea. You need to like steep trails and to cope with crowds in the villages - the word is certainly out that the Cinque Terre are beautiful (and I was there in April). There's a great sheltered swimming spot in the harbour & lots of choices for food, everything from cones of fried seafood to Michelin starred restaurants. I'm already planning a return trip!
Riomaggiore is less than 10mins on the train from La Spezia and 2 mins on the train from Manarola . It’s a perfect location to stay on your visit to the Cinque Terre. It’s has well stocked small supermarkets and good restaurants . Buy a three day Cinque Terre rail ticket for €41 and you can take as many journeys as you wish between the 5 villages and save a lot of money . We found the local people very friendly and helpful.
Riomaggiore
Lovely room in Riomaggiore (in our opinion the most pretty village of Cinque Terre). I believe that the room was actually nicer than the picture shows. The host is lovely and provide great, fresh breakfast from the bakery every morning. Beds were comfortable and AC working well. Nice balcony to sit and relax. Perfect to have a private parking, and Lorenza and her husband helped us with our luggage to and from the hotel. The place is a few minutes walk from the Main Street, with no noise during the night. We were very happy with our stay!
Riomaggiore
Our host was extremely friendly and did a great job of getting us started on a lovely stay in Cinque Terre. Getting to our room requires climbing some stairs, but everything that is done in Cinque Terre requires stair climbing. Our host assisted in getting the luggage to the room and was willing to facilitated a porter at check out as well. The views are postcard gorgeous, and the deck is an awesome place to enjoy a before hiking breakfast or a refreshing after dinner limoncello while listening to the sea.
Riomaggiore
Barbara was so welcoming and happily answered all of my questions around local tips, typical foods to try and must do activities from a locals perspective. Room was incredibly comfortable, clean, bed was like a cloud after a long day of hiking of beaching. Little details in room such as bottle opener and coffee made it extra perfect! Stairs were a challenge with the bags getting up to banchi however stairs seem to be a part of the deal when visiting cinque Terre! Would definitely stay again! Thank you!
Riomaggiore
Barbara was so amazing. She met us at the train station and walked us up to the house pointing out the best places to eat and short cut passages. She had refreshing juices waiting in the house refrigerator which was much appreciated after the summer time walk from the bottom of town. The views were better than the pictures could convey. Air conditioning, a Moka espresso maker. It was perfect and comfortable. What an experience at 5 Terre for You! This is the place to stay in Riomaggiore.
Riomaggiore
The location is perfect. The room is high-tech inside campania which is nice to step in after a long hike. Chiara was kind, and helpful. she sent us all the information needed before our arrival and quickly responded every time we had a query during our stay. A complementary breakfast was also offered during our stay! tip: pack light for your trips in Italy 🇮🇹
Riomaggiore
Fantastic location with a terrace/balcony to watch the steady stream of tourists go by. Kitchen not very usable plus no hot water in the kitchen. Plenty of hot water in the bathroom. Bed not as comfortable as the rest of the places we stayed in Italy. Watch for the low ceilings to the terrace and into the kitchen to avoid hitting your head.
Riomaggiore
they had someone meet us at the train and it was good because the property was hidden away from the main street. But it was not far off and it gave a real flavor of the town. Its not a property if you want to have a view but it is a practical property to enjoy Cinque Terre and especially Riomaggiore. Highly recommend to anyone.
Riomaggiore
Our favorite stay throughout our travels in Italy! We loved the huge patio and stunning view. Very clean and comfortable. Great location. All the necessities and more! Chiara was so friendly and hospitable checking to make sure we had no problems finding and accessing the apartment. Would highly recommend!
Riomaggiore
We really loved these apartments. The owners were very accommodating to our requests. The two flats that we got were big and very clean. They had everything we needed. The location - right next to the Riomaggiore station - is a big plus if you want to discover Cinque Terre by train.
Riomaggiore
Very nice host Franscesca, friendly and helping with tips for Cinque Terre. She reserved a restaurant for us which was absolutely delicious. Really worth a stay and perfectly situated if travelling with a car, walking to the centre of Riomaggiore in few minutes.
Riomaggiore
Wonderful location with an incredibly helpful host Sandro. He went out of his way to help us find the parking spot and building. The town is charming and initiate. Would definitely recommend staying here when in Cinque Terre.
Riomaggiore
Staff were very helpful and friendly. No air conditioning but there is a fan in the room to keep you cool. Riomaggiore is a great town to stay on the Cinque Terre!
Riomaggiore
Our families favorite visit to Italy. It was amazing! Very friendly and helpful host.
Riomaggiore
The best view in Cinque Terre
Riomaggiore
My partner and I stayed here for three nights and had an amazing time! There was a complimentary bottle of Prosecco for us the first night, and we had free water and soft drinks every day from the minibar. There were so many options for breakfast, and everything was very safe and COVID protocols were followed. Our favorite part of our stay was the hot tub which was great to use after hiking and swimming. I highly recommend staying at the Cinqueterre Residence.
Riomaggiore
The location of the facility could not be better. Absolutely the best views of the water and the sunsets. Great communication from the owner (Davide) from booking through checkout. Extremely positive experience all around.
