More than enough to see in Salerno for a week - but it is such a brilliant centre to be in for visiting the Amalfi coast, that you could easily spend 3 weeks here, going for days out and returning to the lovely night life in Salerno for the evenings. Found a Speakeasy bar on the last night - so will have to return there next time! The restaurants sell predominantly fish, and of course pizza and pasta readily available everywhere. Even a vegan restaurant on the edge of the Centro Storico. I was so surprised at how many independent clothing boutiques there were - as well as MaxMara, Twin Set and shops selling Balenciaga and Versace!
Amazing coastal town and perfect hub for visiting the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Pompei, Paestum, etc. The city itself offers a typical and less touristy Italian flair, don’t miss the Duomo and it’s Crypta and the Lungomare! Catch a Brioche con Gelato at Nettuno Bar!
My partner and I decided to visit Salerno after our trip to Rome. It was a very good decision! Salerno has the beautiful character of an italian city at the seaside. I recommend the Spiaggia (beach) Santa Teresa. That´s the only beach in Salerno and an accommodation close by is really worth it. You can also rent beach chairs and umbrellas for 3€ each there from a very kind man. Salerno is nice for shopping along the "Corso Vittorio Emanuele" too. I advice everyone staying in Salerno to take a Trip to the ancient city of Pompeji (20 min by train for 2,40€), and Napoli too (the city isn´t that clean and comfortable but the Pizza there is just amazing). My partner and I stayed at the Ostello Ave Gratia Plena and I would really reccommend that place :) It´s not expensive, clean, light and airy and the staff is very helpful. I wrote an review about that too. Just check it out, it´s really worth it and close to the beach of Salerno.
Salerno has small old town area which is worth a walk. I planned many day trips around, so only spent half day there, but definitely will come back one day to explore the castle above the town and villages and ports nearby Salerno. Salerno is perfect choice if you want to travel around the Amalfi coast and also for trips to Pompei and Vesuvio.
We definitely recommend a visit to Giardino della Minerva - it is in the centre, but is a bit hard to find. We liked the Mediterranean restaurant Il Tegamino in Piazza Sedile di Porta Nuova - very nice food , setting and service.
There wasn't a lot to do in Salerno. It was a good place to stay to connect you to other places. The Paestum is 45 mins away and Ravello is about an hour away. There is a lot a graffiti in Salerno. It just feels dirty.. The water is beautiful but I wish they worked harder on keeping their beaches clean from trash and branches. The food is about all that is good about Salerno.
Salerno
Hotel was in the centre, there were parking lots close to the hotel. Owners are so positive and helpful. Even we came late like 11 pm with their help we went to a really close pizza place which had lovely pizzaz and not really expensive. Rooms were clean and it was all we need for a day stay. It was proper for a family stay. Only couple stairs to enter building. Safe area and have everything you need around.(supermarket, wine store, restaurants etc.) I can not say anything about the breakfast cause i did not booked a room with breakfast.
