Salerno seems very safe and we did not feel in danger at all. Always fun to partake in the evening strolls along the beach front. Things we liked: the duomo (big old church) in the old part of Salerno. The old part of the town has a lot of chrarcter. There is also a medieval aqueduct , in ruins close to the centre. Lots of small clothes boutiques. Coming from the UK we are use to big chain stores. Lots of good value "takeaway" pizza places. We also went to the WW2 war cemetry which has about 2000 british troops buried there. My grandfather was in the war and landed at Salerno in September 1943 so we visited the cemetry to honour him all the other soldiers. We went swimming at a beach about 2 km south of Salerno near a "McDonalds". This seemed about the best public beach in walking distance. Trains are very regular from the station and incredibly cheap. Buses also work well. Bus tickets: 1 euro 20 cents are available from a machine at the train station. One cannot pay on the bus. We loved Salerno but were not so keen on Naples!
Good place to visit Amalfi coast as it's not so crowded as Amalfi or Positano and cheeper than other coastal cities. However ferry is quite expensive. Good option if you want to combine visiting Amalfi coast and historical places as Pompei (cheap train connection). Large selection of restaurants and bars and good prices.
The last time i visited salerno was 35 years ago. The people are as lovable as ever, main differance being the nonas with their heads in their i phones. Funny, probably yapping about food recipes. Roam about the old town up the hill. The small alimentaries will make for you super panninies, using the regions bufalo mozarella which should not be missed.great access for the amalfi coast, pompei and naples. The trains and buses are punctual, clean and cheap. Real italy.
Lots of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Easy walk to the beach. Great medieval castle and Community Gardens to visit also Medicinal Gardens. Amazing crypt at the cathedral. Good train links for Naples and Rome and Ferries to Amalfi & Positano
Walking to the highlights of Salerno was wonderful. The center city is large enough to be interesting but small enough to walk through multiple times. The main shopping street is a few blocks away, Via Mercanti. It's a walking street and literally every evening it is full of people walking, eating, shopping and is very enjoyable.
Salerno is a special place. It is small but if you're willing to walk around and find the treasures I'd guarantee you'd thank me. There is a restaurant at the end of Rome avenue called Irish pub. Their pasta is flabbergasting and simply perfect. Please go there and try the Fruto di Mare. They have more than 15 draft beers to choose from and their selection of meats is absolutely amazing.

Everything in the apartment is wonderful and much beyond our expectation. The windows are large with much natural light coming. The room is very clean and stylish. The bed is extremely comfortable. The balcony is great with a table and two chairs that we enjoyed our breakfast there. Most importantly, the hosts are extremely helpful and hospitable, and they helped us park our car. The location cannot be better, since the housing is just at the central of the city. I cannot recommend it more. This is my best stay in south Italy.

I had a lovely stay at Serendipity and would recommend it to anyone. It is beautifully proportioned and centrally positioned. I particularly liked the typical Italian courtyard entrance. I had an evening train into Salerno which arrived 29 minutes after it should have done and I got lost. The owner’s son came out and found me in the street and took a lot of trouble to make sure that I was ok. The owner was exceedingly kind to me when I asked if I could leave my bags after checkout which I greatly appreciate.

My adult daughter and I really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful old elegance home! We booked the family room to have one location during our 2-week trip to stretch out, and the family room included two bathrooms. We took a taxi from the train station, but we walked everywhere the rest of the two days. The old center of Salerno to explore, and the newer area with the evening passegiatia were both great! Breakfast provided and a handy coffee machine were appreciated. I would definitely stay here again.
Salerno
Meg made us welcome, despite language difficulties we managed to get over what we wanted. Pool was lovely as was the location with views over Salerno. Thank goodness our navigator got us there as it was difficult..but the hotel had put up a few signs on route that helped. Shower was really powerful and a good experience. Breakfast was adequate and we enjoyed the Italuan fare.We also had a meal in the restaurant on the verandah which was delicious and we all enjoyed our meals...the chef was very gracious.
Salerno
Everything: the room was very clean and had all we needed for a travelling family with pets including a balcony; the beds were very comfortable; the location was good, with walking distance to the lungomare and free parking space next to the b&b; the air conditioning was great too. The host was very nice, easy to reach, easy to talk to and very accomodating. It was very nice finding water in the fridge and coffee. If we ever come back to Salerno we’ll stay there again for sure.

We really enjoyed our stay at this small bed & breakfast. There were separate rooms and a shared kitchen area where we had breakfast. The room was really clean, spacious and had a nice balcony (we had the two bedroom room). The location was perfect for exploring Salerno and Amalfi coast. The bed & breakfast is located in the city center of Salerno and near the train station and harbor. Breakfast was delicious and the owners were really nice.
Salerno
Very nice location directly at the sea in Salerno. From our room we had a view at the sea and could listen to the waves. The whole building is very nice and comfy and also very private. From here you can walk to the historical centre within fifteen minutes. Right next to the hotel is a supermarket you just have to cross the road. We enjoyed our stay here and would definitely come back and also recommend it to others!

Gerardo and Ester are the best hosts ever! Very kindly and helpful. Gerardo gave us a lot of interesting information for sightseeing historical places like Pompeii and Paestum. The apartment is beautiful, comfortable, very clean and spaclous in the historical centre of Salerno. We had a great time in Salerno and we definitely want to go back again. Thank you Gerardo and Ester for nice talks and stay!
I loved the location and the easy parking at night. We travelled to Salerno and stayed three nights. Every day we were travelling to a different Amalfi Coast location, but every night we we’re driving back to Grand Hotel Salerno. That was one of the greatest ideas and you should stay at Grand Hotel Salerno for that reason. Easy check in / Friendly reception / Quite clean inside the room
Salerno
great little B&B in central Salerno just off the Main Street with a 5-10mins walk to the port to access Amalfi coast towns. check in process was easy and there was someone waiting for us to arrive even though we were delayed by trains for over 2 hours.
Salerno
Friendly staff. Clean room and bathroom. Room was cleaned every day and new fresh towels were provided. Salerno Pastena station is very near, maybe a five minute walk. And a super cute dog was always greeting us when we went out or came back. :)
Hotel in the heart of the city. the staff was really helpful and courteous. The rooms were clean. the train station was only 450m away. The breakfast was also good. I am sure that would stay in the same Hotel again when visiting Salerno
Seaview and the breakfast are amazing! All of the staff (especially Sara) were so friendly and helpful. They have really made our trip to Salerno a happy experience.
I left another hotel to stay here. It is centrally located and the two gentlemen who seem to be running it were helpful and kind. It’s an easy walk to everything.
