Hotel Montestella is on the main street, Corso Vittorio Emanuele, in Salerno's pedestrian area. Breakfast was great. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Location is excellent!
Novotel Salerno Est Arechi features an enviable location on the seafront, near the Arechi Stadium. It features a summer pool, a fitness center and an excellent restaurant. Parking is free. This hotel was modern. Check in and out was easy and the breakfast was great with a choice of eating inside or outside by the pool. Location was good if you had a car but nothing was within walking distance. Big parking lot right in front was a bonus.
Hotel Plaza is set in the heart of Salerno, directly opposite the railway station, and close to the bus terminal and the pretty seafront promenade. A buffet breakfast is provided daily. Fantastic location close to train, bus and ferry located in pedestrian only shopping mall. Best breakfast we have had while travelling around Italy. Comfortable spacious room with nice bed. We spent six nights here and toured the Amalfi coast by ferry and took the train to Pompeii and Herculaneum. Salerno is an interesting town and is the perfect base to explore the region.

We were only there for one afternoon and a night so we didn't have enough time to explore but we did eat the best italian food in all of Italy there. Oh, and the wine! Yum! Can't wait to return.
Salerno is a small town and quite easily seen in a few days. Most important sites are the Garden of Minerva, cathedrals and a few ruins. Check with the tourist information center for current events. Ferry runs daily to the Amalfi coast so it's cheaper to stay in Salerno. There are also buses from the station but take longer and are usually full, so don't carry too much luggage. It's impossible to get into the bus when ferries get cancelled, so watch out. Fast food is plenty but you'll get bored after a few meals. We found an Indian restaurant that served good food and also a Chinese place. There's also a kebab corner but all of them are closed in the afternoons and reopen around 4pm. Location is near Via Mercanti. Weather is usually warm in May, unfortunately it rained and was very cold this year - unpredictable according to residents. Be sure to have a few warm clothes and jacket. Its a slow relaxed pace every where so you won't feel rushed -except at the bus and ferry stops.
Salerno was really just a staging point on our trip from the deep south to Tuscany. We had a great bnb but the restaurant we wanted to eat at was fully booked and the place we ate was ok but not memorable. So we didn;t do the city justice at all.
I’m partial to southern Italy, it’s the best place in the world. Salerno is full of good food, incredible history and is not as overwhelmingly touristy like other cities in Europe. People were friendly! The city was a bit confusing at first, however, traveling at night in an unfamiliar location would be confusing anywhere. Would definitely like to come back!
Loved walking by the harbour. Perfect if you're traveling elsewhere from Italy and would like to see the Amalfi coast on a budget. It's easy to go to Amalfi Coast from Salerno by taking the ferry (25mins-1hour)
We used Salerno as our "home base" for our almost week-long stay. From Salerno we would launch our daily trips by car, bus or boat to Paestum, Pompeii, Herculaneum, all of the towns along the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, Capri, and finally, Naples! We stayed in a very clean hotel, Hotel Centro Congressi Polo Nautico, with its own great restaurant and pizzeria right inside. Hotel staff was exceptionally friendly and attentive. Sleeping at night with the waves lapping right outside our window and veranda was so peaceful! We had a most enjoyable stay in Salerno.....

The location of the hotel was literally a 5 minute walk from the train station and the ferry which made travel very easy. The hotel is also in the middle of Salerno's city market which is home to a plethora of shops and eateries. The hosts were very accommodating. Roberta greeted us with a smile and provided us with a list of things to do in the area and along the Amalfi coast. The room was cleaned daily and refreshments (coffee, water, biscuits) were provided. I would definitely recommend staying here!

Our stay was amazing, we were sad to only spend two nights here! The apartment is just the right size for a couple. The train station is very close by and it’s easy to get around town with lots of cool spots only minutes away. Our host was also extremely helpful, from restaurant recommendations to taxis and checking up on us after the fact to make sure our stay went smoothly. We would stay here again in a heartbeat and definitely recommend it to anyone going to Salerno. Grazie mille!

The room was absolutely clean, comfortable, and modern. Bathroom had everything we needed (towels, shampoo, shower gel) and was very clean as well. The apartment is located close to the central station, and is not far from the city center (10-15 mins of walking). The host was very nice. He gave us a number of useful tips for our journey. In the morning he arranged a breakfast with delicious croissants. I highly recommend this place if you are planning to stay in Salerno.

The room was spacious, clean and comfortable, and had a small balcony that overlooked the mall area. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and we had a delicious continental breakfast served in our room each morning. The gorgeous old town is a just a 5 minute walk away, and there are great restaurants, shops and cafe all around. I would highly recommend staying here if you are visiting Salerno.

Everything! The apartment was very clean and shiny. The breakfast was very good. Our host Eliseo was all the way helpful. He made our stay easy and very comfortable, gave all the needed information, so for the first day we felt we new the city very well:). If I’ll be in that area in Italy for future, I definitely will choose Salerno and City Central!
