About Salerno

Salerno, Italy, is a captivating city nestled on the Gulf of Salerno on the Tyrrhenian Sea. Known for its Mediterranean climate, Salerno offers warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters, with temperatures averaging 80°F in July and 50°F in January.

The city is rich in historical landmarks and attractions. Visit the Salerno Cathedral, a stunning example of Norman and Arab-Norman architecture, or stroll along the vibrant Lungomare Trieste promenade. Public buses and trains provide easy transportation, but exploring on foot is a delightful option as well.

Immerse yourself in Salerno's culture by attending the annual Luci d'Artista, a spectacular light show held during the Christmas season. The city is also renowned for its cuisine, featuring dishes like Scialatielli ai Frutti di Mare, a homemade pasta served with a variety of seafood. The surrounding Campania region is known for its lush landscapes and breathtaking coastal views.

1 day in Salerno was too long.

1 day in Salerno was too long. There were a lot of homeless and sketchy people. It was like the Newark of Italy...filthy. It didn't even feel like we were in Italy until we got to the old part of town. But, we didn't feel safe here either.

A beautiful town with lots of attractions, cafes and restaurants especially in the city centre. Recommended to be visited during the Holiday Season because of the famous Christmas lighting throughout the whole city

Salerno is a great location for shopping, sightseeing.

Salerno is a great location for shopping, sightseeing. Easy travel to Pompei, Herculaneum by bus or train. The harbour trips give access to Amalfi (a great town but it has many hills), you can take a day trip to Capri, Positano by boat as they run regularly. Salerno has many good shops, bars, restaurants and the Old Town is worth going to see.

I found Salerno Prestige and it was the best thing that happened to me and made my stay in Italy better than anticipated. I plan to return in January and will book my stay once I've scheduled my flight!

Salerno is a great spot to use as a base for the Sorrento peninsula and trains south. I went to Paestum and then onto Catania after arriving from Naples. I also went to Amalfi and Positano by water and the ferries were around the corner. I just walked off the train and across the street to my hotel when I arrived. I hadn't heard of Salerno before but it is a great place!

I had a delightful stay at the old palace-themed hotel. Stepping into its medieval-themed ambiance was like entering a time capsule. The decor, from tapestries to chandeliers, was impressive. The staff was very friendly, and my room was very spacious with a good view. Particularly, the host was always willing to help out with recommendations on places to visit. The hotel blends history with modern comforts (such as modern toilets) seamlessly, making it a must-visit for history enthusiasts seeking a royal experience.

Of the 5 different places we stayed in Italy, this was our favorite. The amenities were superb! Very comfortable beds, great location within walking distance to all kinds of shopping, the beach, and variety of foods, USB charging stations (the only time my phone was fully charged over there bc USB is not common), Netflix/ smart TV which came in handy when it rained, super friendly and caring staff with personal touches, and facilities that are actually better than the pictures. Could not rate this place higher.

This is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. We were so amazed once we opened the door because we could see the panorama of Salerno. We were able to use the beautiful terrace and just relax watching the views. The owner was so sweet. She made a delicious breakfast! We wish we were able to speak Italian so that we could have more conversations with her. Salerno is just a beautiful local town but this hotel definitely made our Salerno trip much much better. I highly recommend it!!

Everything: the room was very clean and had all we needed for a travelling family with pets including a balcony; the beds were very comfortable; the location was good, with walking distance to the lungomare and free parking space next to the b&b; the air conditioning was great too. The host was very nice, easy to reach, easy to talk to and very accomodating. It was very nice finding water in the fridge and coffee. If we ever come back to Salerno we’ll stay there again for sure.

There are four rooms and each one is themed. We stayed in the “London” room and were very impressed by all the little details representing England. It was very well done, and most importantly the room felt clean and comfortable. The hostess was sweet and let us check in to our room when we arrived early, about 1:30pm. This was the first accommodation in Italy that actually provided cloths m, which we were really excited about. It’s the little things!

Breakfast was delicious, with both savoury and sweet options, some of which were homemade, and it was the best B&B breakfast we had over our many trips to Italy. The host, Carmen, was very friendly and welcoming. Our room was big and in really good taste, and the bed was quite comfortable. The B&B's location is not very central, but to us that was an advantage - Salerno can be quite busy and noisy, so if it were more central it meant less quiet.

Best place I stayed during my visit. Hosts were lovely and helpful. Room was with hotel quality but airbnb flexibility. It had kitchen corner with all facilities, large table and tea set. On balcony was possibility to dry laundry which was really needed at that point. TV enabled to connect to Netflix and other platforms. Massimo gave excellent Salerno tips, and even voucher for beach bar which was also great place.

I loved the location and the easy parking at night. We travelled to Salerno and stayed three nights. Every day we were travelling to a different Amalfi Coast location, but every night we we’re driving back to Grand Hotel Salerno. That was one of the greatest ideas and you should stay at Grand Hotel Salerno for that reason. Easy check in / Friendly reception / Quite clean inside the room

Host was so kind and made sure everything was taken care of. She stayed in touch throughout my 3 night stay. Helped me with a few questions about Salerno, and responses were spot on. Location is right in the center and blocks away from the boardwalk. Near everything. The stay helped me learn more about Salerno; had a very pleasant experience.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Montestella Hotel in Salerno, and it was a truly enjoyable experience. The hotel's location was convenient, allowing easy access to both the city center and the beautiful Amalfi Coast. The staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful, always ready to provide assistance or recommendations.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. They answered a bunch of questions I had, and their English was great (especially compared to my Italian). Salerno is an ideal city to stay in and allows you to take a short ferry ride to other Amalfi Coast cities like: Vietri Sul Mare, Amalfi, Positano, and Capri.

Bed was super comfy and the shower was really nice even though the drain needed to be cleaned. Awesome location so close to the train station and very walkable to all the restaurants. Go to Mama Rosa’s and Punto Freddos gelato! Best gelato in Italy and the most affordable as well.

Andrea is amazing... the breakfast is fantastic. We stayed for only one day and I'm sad we didn't pick this Hotel for at least 1 more.. Salerno is fantastic and the hotel is the the heart of it. Zero outside noise due to their care on having acoustic windows . Best choice...
