Salerno is perhaps overshadowed by the nearby coastal villages of the Amalfi coast but for anyone that wants to avoid tourist traps and seeks a real Italian Mediterranean experience then Salerno is well worth consideration.
A very industrial city. Waitstaff and shop owners were not friendly to visitors. Busy, noisy without the cultural charm of other Italian cities we visited. Would not recommend. Amulfi coast is a much better option.
Salerno is great. It is the perfect spot for seeing the Amalfi Coast. It is a major rail hub and easy to from Rome and to get around to all the other towns along the coast either via train, road or ferry. It's a busy city and has everything needed. We were a bit disappointed with the waterfront though. Such an underutilised area. More alfresco dining and restaurants along this area would be ideal.
Salerno is a good option if you're interested in the Amalfi coast but don't want the high price tag of Amalfi or Positano. The town itself doesn't have a lot to offer other than lots of shopping on the main roads. One gem we found was Pizzeria de Michele - amazing pizza - huge, delicious and reasonable prices.
Salerno is a gem, hidden in plain sight! First impressions arriving at the train station are deceptive. The city looks tired, a bit dirty and poorly maintained. BUT, a walk down the wide pedestrian concourse slowly narrows to ancient stone streets with charming shops, cafes and restaurants punctuated with many interesting laneways. The waterfront boulevard is lined by gardens and trees and an historic castle overlooks the whole. Ferry boats to other gorgeous Amalfi towns, run regularly from the very accessible Concordia port. With lower room costs and more reasonable restaurant prices, yet excellent food and service, Salerno is the perfect budget center for touring the Amafi Coastal area.
Salerno is a perfect place if you are traveler to travel around southern Italy.Good train and bus service to other tourist locations like Pomepeii,Pasteum,Amalfi and Rome. Train and bus tickets are affordable and on time mostly.I haven't used ferry as In my Knowledge ferry service from Salernao is from April to October. Salerno Prominade is good for a walk. Food price is cheaper compare to other tourist Places.
Salerno Old Town, Salerno
Peonia Blu is located in the heart of Old Town next to great Salerno cathedral. The apartment is quite spacious, comfortable, well equipped, tastefully decorated (local ceramics accent like really pretty floor tiles at the center of main room and bathroom or blu-white marine decor). And above all spotless clean. Great starting point to visit Amalfi coast. Nearby Pizzeria Criscemunno is a must! Highly recommended!
Salerno
Its the best place to stay in salerno, huge rooms , comfy bed, very clean, amazing bathroom and a great view from the balcony. The hostess is really amazing and always available to help. Even though its a BnB , late checkin even after mid night was pretty easy. The place is really worth the money. Also the place has cute and cozy welcome lobby where you can have fresh water, some home made cakes, fruitss .
Salerno Old Town, Salerno
Great location! 5 min walk from the main street, where you can find restaurants and shops 15-20 min walk to the ferry for Amalfi and approx 25 min walk to the ferry for Capri. The room, the bed,the shower, the bar where you can have breakfast everything was great! Paolo is a great host, very helpful and kind. Im highly recommend you to stay there during your Salerno or south Italy trip.
Salerno
Lisa has literally thought about every little detail in her beautiful bed&breakfast. The design of the bed&breakfast is gorgeous. She is a very friendly warm host, the bed is very comfortable with two pillows per person, the breakfast was tasty. It is also very handy for a city like Salerno that there is private parking space. We would love to return !
Salerno
The staff was very friendly and helpful. They answered a bunch of questions I had, and their English was great (especially compared to my Italian). Salerno is an ideal city to stay in and allows you to take a short ferry ride to other Amalfi Coast cities like: Vietri Sul Mare, Amalfi, Positano, and Capri.
Salerno
The location is perfect for bus, train or ferry stop or for exploring salerno. The access to the room/hotel wasvery confortable because it doesn't require you to take a key around. The hosts are very forthcoming and write back immediatelly if questions arise.
Salerno
Spacious room with contemporary design and facilities. Marco, the owner, is helpful. A very reasonable rate, too, Salerno offering easy access to Paestum, the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii, as well as being only a brief, cheap train ride from the centre of Naples.

Salerno
The host was very welcoming and gave invaluable advice on where to go. The Il Ritrato website is excellent and in english also. Location in town was within walking distance from train and from many sites in Salerno.
Salerno Old Town, Salerno
The best location in the historical center, very close to excellent pizzerias, nice bars and shops. The room was quiet (not very common in Italy) and WiFi and AC worked perfectly. Nice shower.

The best apartment we stayed in on our 3-week trip. Maria is a superstar and so kind. Do yourself a favor and stay here. Salerno is life in Italy and is seriously underrated.
Salerno Old Town, Salerno
Lovely way to design a room. Super soft mattress, but maybe too soft for those with back issues. Great shower for Italy.
Triple room for a couple gave us extra space. Clean, convenient hotel with good breakfast and friendly staff.
