well located. close to the old city and great restaurants
Kite-shaped Trapani makes an impressive sight from lofty Mount Erice, connected to the peninsula below by cable car. On a clear day, the mountain also offers views of Tunisia - one destination of ferries from Trapani Port, alongside Cagliari, Pantelleria and the offshore Egadi Islands.
Overlooking the port is the old town, where arched doorways on narrow streets open onto many cheap apartments and B&Bs on Booking.com. Shabby chic façades sit alongside historic churches, such as understated Trapani Cathedral, somewhat lost amid elegant Corso Vittorio Emanuele, where pavement cafes sit in front of pastel-coloured buildings and metal balconies.
At the tip of the peninsula is the fortress-like Tower of Ligny lighthouse, now housing the Prehistory and Sea Museum. The Colombaia Castle protects the port from an island to the south, while in the other direction the sweeping coastline passes some beachfront hotels with swimming pools.
Villa Margherita Park offers shade from the Mediterranean sun, and Triton’s Fountain graces a neighbouring square. The simple façade of the Basilica of Maria Santissima Annunziata hides the treasures within, including a statue of the Madonna of Trapani which is at the heart of the Easter ‘Misteri’ celebrations.
Between the city and Trapani-Birgi Airport, historic windmills sit beside salt pans. The Salt Museum provides details of this major industry.

The beach directly around the town of Trapani, ok , water warm small beach which is rocky sandy beach. The 8 hour egadi island excursion I took with Get your Guide, however was the best out of 8 beach/ boat excursions I took . Take any tour that offers Favignana and levanzo( an island 1 hour free time stop ). The Aegadian islands are the prettiest offerings Tripani has . I walked around town late at night (11:00) and found a fun music thing happening at a plaza. It’s a good city to take excursions from.

Beautiful beaches for swimming.
Beautiful beaches for swimming. Great to be amongst Italians vacationing. Street food and other options for dinner. Supermarkets to sort yourself out. Lots of nearby and good drive places. We stayed 6 nights but could have done more.
We walked everywhere.
Erice was so busy and touristy that we didn’t really get much out of it.
Went to Grotta Mangiapane - do that!!
Big drive to a Therme which was cool.
Day trip to Favignana where we hired electric bikes. Don’t go to the first stand - we only paid €25 for the day and they were charging €40! Also - be smart and ask for a helmet. Don’t ride in the slippery inner town roads - I fell three times (yes I’m clumsy).

We had only visited Trapani briefly on a day trip from Palermo but liked it sufficiently to decide to spend a few days here and use it as a base for western Sicily. Could have stayed longer - there is a lot to do in the surrounding area, though a car is needed. Trapani itself was far livelier than we expected (we previously came in 2020) - several central streets with restaurants and nightlife and lots of buzz. Some great restaurants closer to the port as well, especially those majoring on couscous. We particularly enjoyed Ai Lumi (amazing savoury cheesecake!) and La Cantina in the old Giudecca district. Trapani is an excellent base for exploring west Sicily which is very north African in flavour and outside Trapani and the small islands, a lot less busy and touristy than other areas. We visited Marsala and Mazzero de Valle, both very interesting, as well as Segeste and Erice (stunning), the island of Mozzia (really interesting), and the largest of the Egadi Islands, Favignana (don't miss the amazing Impossible Garden, landscaped in old quarries)

Trapani is usually circumvented by tourists.
Trapani is usually circumvented by tourists. It is a pity because the old town is nice, the Egadi islands sea is so clean with a lot of variety of blue. Local cuisine is fantastic, some of the gelaterias are on the list of best icecreams in my life.

If you are taking the ferry to Favignana this is a good spot.
Only had one meal here. It was at Osteria il Moro which was fabulous with a great staff. The seafood, especially cuttlefish, was out of this world.
There were eight of us so we selected a la carte rather than the incredibly interesting tasting menus. If you are a foodie, do check the menus on their website.
The wine list was extensive with the most famous wineries in Italy as well as new, little-known, up-and-coming wineries. Bottle prices were close to retail from 22Euros to 500Euros.
This certainly deserves its Michelin rating and more.
I liked appartement which was very pleasant.I was living on the opposite side of the harbor about 1 minute far away. On the same side as harbor is the stop of the bus going to airports. Very strategic place for holidays because near the centrum. It was easy to walk from one side of Sicily island to another. Marc was very helpful and present. About 1 minute from apartment is the bar with caffee, different small tasty sweet treats and dinner. From the harbor very easy to be connected with another islands.
Very trendy boutique hotel in the Trapani historic centre. We had a noise problem with the first room but they changed to another quieter room immediately. A big public parking is just opposite of the hotel and no problem of finding a space. You have a nice panoramic view from the roof top terrace. A lot of selection of restaurants in just a few minutes walk and we enjoyed walking along the beach in the evening.
A place full of character and still modern, functional and comfortable. We got a two room apartment. Great views from roof top terrace. Great location next to city walks and loads of restaurants. Fantastic breakfast, the best we have had on this trip to Sicily. Very supportive and friendly staff.
Really lovely short trip to break up travelling through Sicily. The hotel is well situated for the port and for restaurants in the old town. The room was spotless and was cleaned to a fantastic standard. Lovely breakfast and really friendly staff!
The staff we great, very friendly and very informative and spoke English which is rare to find in Sicily 🙂! The place is nice, comfortable and clean, walking distance from the centre of the city and the beach! Couldn’t ask for more.
